NEWS NOTES & NONSENSE
  •  The September 26th bulletin was opened by 42% of club members.
  • The meal included pork 'n dressing, stuffed peppers (this may have been the first time at Julia's), g-beans, salad and cake.
  • We learned that long time server Karen has moved on to a different job. We wish her well.
  • We had 15 members in the house. Allen, Wendell and Roger led the parade. Patty and Mark 4 beat the bell.
  • Allen is busy looking for some old Rotary pix. (He'll find them in the last place he looks.) I'll share them with you as soon as they arrive. If anyone has any old photos that they would like to share, let me know. if you want them back I'll be happy to scan and return.
  • Opening duties were provided by Roger, Wendell and Dave.
  • Wendell and Allen shared their adventures in Venezuela.
  • Red will be joining the Jacksonville club next week. Bill will stop by and represent us on his way north.
  • "Cousin" Jeff was our lone visitor. He created plenty of Cardinal table talk.
  • Bill and Dave were both sporting interesting ties. Bill was braggin' about his Snoopy collection.
  • CSI Rotary:Where were the golfers? (You know who you are!)
  • Dave claimed to be in charge of the weather during the successful Wing 'n Wheels event at the airport.
  • It looks like we will work on the Bethalto  Habitat for Humanity house on the 22nd. We will be installing insulation. Stay tuned for the details. Keep your afternoon open.
  • In lieu of the program Roger promised singing and dancing. The "amen singers' came through, with the singing part.
  • We received a thank you for our donation to the Back to School Push. They distributed 1000 backpacks. When asked if the Hartford Assembly of God pastor would make a good Rotarian, Bill said he was one of the nicest non-Methodist ministers he knows, but he is a Cubs fan.
  • We received a thank you note from Red. He likes the watch and had a great 33 year run in EA.
  • The Chili Dinner sign-up list is making the rounds. The event is next Friday the 9th. Set-up starts at 3:30, serving at 4:45. Get you ticket money to Roger ASAP.
  • Patty confirmed that our Christmas event will be held on December 3rd at High Flyers grill at the airport.
  • Erin reported (remotely) that date and time for EA-WR interviews will be scheduled soon. Roxana to follow.

  • Mark 4 received his brand spanking new name badge.
  • Wendell warned us to watch out for the FARC when you visit Columbia.
  • Patty gave SAA Bill a hand with the bag. Shameless plugs were offered by: Roger, Mark 3, Dave and Patty. The correct answers were related to Babe Ruth,James Dean, 1890, Johnny Mathis and Evanston.
  • The $27 50-50 jackpot was left on the table by Dave,Mark 3 and Pat.

DATELINE:RI

(The following was recently received from the District 6460 Foundation Chair. If you would like to take advantage of this great opportunity here is a link to the form http://www.rotarydistrict6460.org/Forms/District%206460%20Foundation%20Matching%20Points%20Program.pdf )

Greetings fellow Rotarians!  Today I am pleased to announce an exciting limited time opportunity to take advantage of a “matching points” offer from District 6460.  This is your chance to support the great work of the Annual Fund of The Rotary Foundation AND have the recognition points you receive for your donation matched by the District from our pool of available Foundation points.  Recognition points for all donations of at least $100 will be matched point for point, effectively doubling the level of recognition that you receive for your charitable gift.

Here is an example: a $500 contribution, which would normally earn you 500 recognition points, when matched with 500 points from the District pool will automatically qualify you as a Paul Harris Fellow. What a great opportunity to become a first time Paul Harris Fellow, or to reach your next multiple Paul Harris Fellow level more quickly.  Or, you could instead direct that the points be given to another person, naming him or her as a Paul Harris Fellow.  Might you consider naming your spouse, child, parent, grandchild, neighbor, or friend as a Paul Harris Fellow?   This is an ideal opportunity to do so.

Please plan to take advantage of this limited time opportunity… the matching points offer ends on November 15.    All the details and easy to follow instructions are included in the attached document.

THANK YOU in advance for your support of the Annual Fund of The Rotary Foundation.  Please remember that all donations to the Annual Fund will be available to District 6460 on July 1, 2018 to help us fund local club projects, scholarships and international humanitarian projects. The more we give now, the more we’ll have to use later!

In Rotary Service,

Mark Roberts
District 6460 Rotary Foundation Chair
