On Thursday Lori Pelan joined us remotely to talk about all the good things the SCORE organization can provide to help a small business be successful. After retiring from a Fortune 500 company in 2017 she spent a bit of time deciding on what to do next. Since she enjoyed mentoring during her career she chose to become involved with SCORE.Loriis actively involved with trying to recruit additional local mentors to serve as a base for Metro East businesses. She pointed out a SBA stat that 70% of mentored businesses survive as least five years. A good reason for a new small business to seek out SCORE assistance.
Don't forget to bring your new socks donations to our March 10th meeting. Rosetta Brown will be on hand to tell us about the Socks for Tots program and accept our donations (photo below).
While we were away the following members celebrated Rotary anniversaries-LauraW-2, JeanK-13, GeorgeT-50, RhondaB-14, SandyS-8, SherryT-8, ChrisH-15, RobinK-3, TommieM-27, LindseyH-5 and MarkA-11. Congrats to all these fine members.

We will be attending the season opening game of the Alton River Dragons baseball team on June 1st First pitch is @ 6:35. Let LoriP know ASAP if you want to be there. She plans to get a group rate on the tickets, around $10 per. Fireworks to follow the final pitch. It should be a fun group outing.

Our 5k Color Run is slated for Saturday June 4th @ Belk. The sign-up link is available on our Facebook and web pages. Prez Lindsey is also looking for race sponsors for $100. Let her know if you are in. The race will be in person and on a new circuit that JasonW designed so runners/walkers won't get lost.

Stand on top of Lookout Mountain on a clear day and you can see seven states at once (with a little help from binoculars). The summit is in Georgia, and from there you can also see Tennessee (a half mile away), Alabama (25 miles), North Carolina (50 miles), South Carolina (80 miles), and Kentucky and Virginia (about 120 miles). Lookout Mountain is one of the few places in the United States where so many states are visible at one time, thanks to the mountain’s 2,388-foot summit and the low terrain surrounding it.

The WR club inducted JeanK and recognized her and hubby Steve for their American Towman Magazine award- The Order of the Towman.
The EA club was looking for students to participate in the RYLA program.
The WR, EA and Bethalto club tri-club meeting was slated for March 19th at the Keasler Rec Center.
The WR club welcomed RHS students Scott Monroe and Taylor Slayden.
JoeS took some umbrage when a fellow EA member referred to him as "dainty".
JimH served as the WR meeting greeter.
The EA club approved the purchase of decorative street indicators and stop signs for the Main & Shamrock intersection.
PaulG was the WR meeting program chair.
LoriP and ChrisH missed the opportunity to claim the $181 EA 50-50 jackpot.

RI 2022-23 LOGO
"Imagine Rotary" is the 2022-23 presidential theme that RI President-elect Jennifer Jones recently revealed. She is asking Rotary members to dream big and take action: “We all have dreams but acting on them is a choice. Imagine a world that deserves our best, where we get up each day knowing that we can make a difference.”
The logo for the theme was designed by Riki Salam, an Australian artist and graphic designer specializing in contemporary Indigenous art, design, and communications. He also created the 2023 Rotary International Convention logo which will be held in Melbourne, Australia, thus connecting the two by a shared visual language.
Meaning of the design elements
There is, of course, a deeper meaning behind each element of the design. The circle in aboriginal culture for instance, signifies our connections to one another. The dots around it represent people and there are seven because of Rotary´s areas of focus.
The circle and the dots together become a navigation star - our guiding light. The solid line underneath is what is referred to as a digging stick and it is used when doing hard work. And since Rotary members are people of action – it represents a tool for getting things done.
The colors
The colors green, purple, and white are not necessarily connected to aboriginal culture. President-elect Jennifer Jones asked the new crew of Governors to use one, two, or all three when dressing for official events instead of using a theme jacket. "As we celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion, I wanted all of us to be able to express ourselves differently in what we wear, but still have connection", Jones explained.
There are several ways to interpret the colors: Purple for example stands for polio eradication, green for the environment, the newest addition to our areas of focus, and white for peace, our core mission. Together, they are the colors of the women’s movement, the Suffragette - a subtle nod to this history as Jones pointed out, since she will be the first female RI president.
