• Jean K introduced Pastor Debra Hoertel to present the program on Thursday. Debra is the pastor of the Rosewood Heights United Methodist Church. She told us about the two week 2019 mission trip to Honduras. The  trip is coordinated by the Main Street United Methodist Church in Alton. Debra's church sends a crew every two years, but not this year. She told us about some of the quality of life issues facing the Honduran people. During the pandemic Honduras, with limited infrastructure, was hit by two hurricanes. She reviewed some of the projects the mission crew accomplished during their most recent visit. They provided 300 children with fluoride for their teeth and taught them proper dental care. They also taught folks how to sew some items, such as bags and dresses, that could be sold to provide income. The trip is paid for primarily by fundraising activities, need some peanut brittle? Debra admitted that it might be easier to write a check but, as a Christian, she feels it's important to work with people directly to help them grow. Well said. 
•  We had 21 members Zooming in on Thursday including a couple of new Zoomies.  First to log in were BradP, Prez Chris and BillP.
• Opening duties were provided by SandyS, MarkS and BillP who, somehow, managed to give thanks for the "good" weather.

• In 2008 GeorgeM was the youngest Wood River club member to be awarded the Paul Harris Fellow award. He was also the youngest Club President (2002-03) and Treasurer (2004-today, and beyond...). Who was the youngest PHF and Prez for the East Alton club? Let RickH know for a future shoutout.
• Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to the family of Larry Ringering. He passed away Thursday evening. Larry was a great guy, former Rotarian, 
  East Alton Fire Chief and Director of Madison County Emergency services. God bless. As an aside, Larry built the podium that we use at our weekly meetings.

• HenryS has identified Beth Matteson as the first female Wood River Rotarian. Thank you! Did you know that Henry has been a Rotarian north of 51 years. Now you ask, who is #2 on our seniority list with almost 47 years of service??
• If you are scheduling a speaker for a zoom meeting please request that they join us at noon for their presentation. They will have the first 20 minutes, or so, of our meeting. Please provide their name and presentation topic to LoriP for listing on our web site.
• RhondaB encourages everyone to start sharing info about our Music Trivia night via all your social network contacts. There is no limit to how many participants we have that evening.
•  The Wood River Rotary Make-Up newsletter scanning project is complete. They can be accessed via the “documents” link on our web site. If you have earlier Make-Up issues or other documents from the former Wood River club that are worth saving/sharing let Rick know. The first file issue was dated July 7, 1986.
• MarkS has been in touch with Madison County Transit Director SJ Morrison and explored the possibility of sponsoring a bus shelter. SJ will investigate. He did offer us the option of sponsoring a bench, located along one of the bike trails, for $5000 (that's not a typo!)
• MarkS also filled us in on the Imagination Library program that targets children from birth to age five by providing reading material.
• Rhonda is developing a way to use our Facebook page to auction off our gift cards and baskets in conjunction with our music trivia event in March.  Don’t forget that DJBigPapaG (find him on Facebook with that handle) provides free music bingo opportunities every Wednesday evening @ 6. Join him so that you can tell folks how our event will roll. You can play using either Facebook or Zoom.
• JohnP and DonnaK provided some scholarship information during a brief discussion about our program.  
• Our  "Marked Men" reported fine weather from their perches in central Florida. SherryT begged to differ. Her recent visit to Stuart, FL was not accompanied with the most pleasant weather.
• RodC indicated that our international project will probably be providing some funding for a toilet project in Africa.
• JohnP told us that our club logo will appear on both the fence screen and media backdrop.

• RodC had two screens at the meeting SandyS and SherryT shared the same one along with a nice looking pizza.
• So, a reshuffled deck of cards was used for the Queen of Hearts game on Thursday. On the fourth try MarkS pulled the red lady. His net win will be about $25.Everyone else will pay the "grim reaper", AKA RickH, for their indiscretions the past four weeks.
