                 PREZ BRAD RETURNS

  • Let's do a recap of our Installation Dinner. We found out that Patty seemed to like the sound of her amplified voice, we're not sure if her hubby and daughter totally agreed. Let's thank her for her steady leadership this past year. She now joins our triumvirate, including BradL and Bill, to herd cats for the next 12 months. There were about 30 folks in the house, including "now I'm found" members Sherry and Sandy (It's always nice to see these fine ladies.) Bill "gave thanks" for the evening's repartee. Speaking of Bill, he was the recipient of this year's Paul Harris Fellow award. Last year's PHF, Virgil, made the presentation. Well deserved! What's wrong with eating dessert first? Paul presented 40 years, or more, membership certificates to MarkS, Allen, Dick and Pat. Joe presented the Business of the Year award to Chris Stotts and his business Advanced Wiring Solutions. Patty spent a few minutes reviewing the past year and being appreciative of Bill's 1 o' clock clap.
  • On Thursday Rick presented a slide show about a trip to the Alps he and Betsy took last September. Depending on who you talked to (Rhonda, MarkS), it either rated a zero or something close to OK (Bill). To sum up the presentation we turn to Prez Brad-beer, brats and bathrooms.
  • Prez Brad put the gavel to our bell for his first official time since 2015. Patty was suffering from "bell withdrawal". Bill just wants to know when he will get his chance to "preach to the choir".
  • Wendell likes the 3000-1 Columbian peso to USD exchange rate.
  • Lori has your packet of Baseball Mania tickets,  Hardcopy and online sales options are available. There will be at least one $10 winner per week. Sell the ticket, submit the $$ and purchaser info to Lori then wait for the check in the mail. One week to blast off.
  • Bill and Paul in shorts, 'nuf said.
  • New District Governor Mark will be in the house on August 29th.
  • Sandy was in the house for her second consecutive meeting. She spent a few minutes sorting out our new members from the guests. We hope to see her next week.
  • Bill DID NOT fish Dave's name badge from the trash. That's how rumors get started.
  • MarkS, Paul and Rod were off to Lockhaven after the meeting. MarkS was headed to our 50th state on Friday AM for a week of R&R.
  • Allen introduced his new pastor and newly recruited Rotarian, Rodney Durr. We also welcomed Wood River member Tommie and our Business of the Year owner Chris Stotts.
  • Rod was the earliest bird to arrive, followed by Allen, Patty and Bill. The last wave of in-house members were Nate, Rhonda, Ty and ChisH.
  • Opening duties were covered by MarkV, Rhonda and Bill.
  • The buffet featured roast beast, Rotary g-beans, bakers, rolls, salad and cake.
  • MarkS covered for Cory and confirmed that there were 19 members in the house, collected some $$ too.
  • Alex stepped up to fill our SAA void and brought Dave along to collect the bountiful $$. Not watching a fireworks display? Pay a $. Not at the Installation dinner? Pay a $. Nate announced that he is now gainfully employed by the Great Rivers and Routes Tourism Bureau. Patty was proud of daughter Natalie for making the honor roll. Ty told us about an Amare event that will be held at the airport. Allen turned the 4-way test on its head.Trivia topics included beavers, blood, peanuts and the German alphabet.
  • Patty took a shot at the $14 jackpot and the scratch-off, no luck. Paul was equally frustrated.
  • That's it, have a fine and dry weekend. Ciao!

What is the largest island in the mainland U.S.?
Long Island
Longboat Key
Coney Island
Nantucket

With a name like Long Island, it’s no shocker that this New York island lying off of the Atlantic coast is the biggest in the continental U.S. The island is also one of the most densely populated in the country, with almost 40% of the entire state of New York residing there. Agriculture, aviation factories, engineering research centers, and industrial parks power Long Island, which has an area of 1.401 square miles. And it's not just a great place to drink iced tea: While there, visit the Old Westbury Gardens, the Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium, and the Long Island Aquarium.

THE PERFECT DRESS
Jennifer’s wedding day was fast approaching.  Nothing could dampen her excitement, not even her parents’ nasty divorce. Her mother had found the PERFECT dress to wear and would be the best-dressed mother of-the-bride ever! A week later, Jennifer was horrified to learn that her father’s new young wife had bought the exact same dress as her mother! Jennifer asked her step mom to exchange it, but she refused. “Absolutely not. I look like a million bucks in this dress, and I’m wearing it,” she replied. Jennifer told her mother, who graciously said, “Never mind, sweetheart. I’ll get another dress. After all, it’s your special day.” A few days later, they went shopping and did find another gorgeous dress. When they stopped for lunch, Jennifer asked her mother, “Aren’t you going to return the other dress?  You really don’t have another occasion where you could wear it.” Her mother just smiled and replied, “Of course I do, dear. I’m wearing it to the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding.”
