This Thursday is our Christmas party. Don't forget to RSVP so we have a solid head count. Spouses and guests are welcome to attend.
BillP thanked the 14 folks who assisted at the Christmas Wonderland event on Wednesday. 177 vehicles meandered through Rock Springs Park checking out the lights and displays. We collected $300 in tips which was returned to grandpa and the boys. Now we wait until spring for our $400 check. Thanks to Bill for coordinating.
Our intrepid explorer, PaulH, uncovered the grave of Charles Lindbergh while on the road to Hana, Hawaii.
BillP covered for Prez Lindsey and started the meeting with a resounding bang of the bell.
The small Christmas box circulating around the room is for donations that will be used to purchase clothing and toys for our adopted family. Donations will be accepted through December 16th.
The final total for our Turkey Fund was
$537. Thanks to all for your generous support.
Chef Bob returned to serve us pot roast and veggies, salad and multiple cake choices.
It seems as though BillP and MarkS couldn't wait to clean their plates before hitting the dessert corner.
Among the last of the 18 Rotarians to arrive were MikeK, LeonardB and RobinK.
Opening duties were handled by MarkV, PaulH and RodneyD.
SAA LeonardB took a free will offering after regaling us with the chemical make-up of Twinkies. They can explode!
Houston, we may have a problem! It seems as though RickH refused to draw the joker to give WendellR an opportunity to do so, and he did! It was later discovered that there was a second joker in the deck (or up a sleeve??). Wendell took home $10 with the other $180 in dispute. BillP won the scratch-off.
Ciao! Have a fine and dry weekend. Stay safe.

What is the northernmost capital city in the continental U.S.?
Augusta, Maine
Olympia, Washington
Montpelier, Vermont
Bismarck, North Dakota
Maine may reach the furthest above the 49th parallel, but the honor of the northernmost capital city in the continental U.S. belongs to Olympia, Washington. To be fair, Maine's capital of Augusta is nearly on par with Washington's — Augusta clocks in at 44 degrees north, while Olympia is just a few degrees higher at 47 degrees north.

Discovering the impact of Rotary grants in Zimbabwe
By Carolyn Schrader, Rotary Club of Denver Mile High, Colorado, USA
When I first joined Rotary, I was encouraged by another member to join in sponsoring a $14,000 AIDS awareness grant in Harare, Zimbabwe. I helped raise funds and worked with the Harare Rotarians to write the grant completed in 2005. But my connection to Zimbabwe lasted much longer.
As I was writing the grant report, I realized I had no idea what had really happened because the grant activity was in Zimbabwe and I was in Denver. I needed to go see the project. That was perhaps one of the most fateful decisions I ever made.
Along with volunteers for the training organization that had designed the program, I went to Zimbabwe, starting a love affair with Rotary grant projects. I learned more about sustainable projects, and why Rotary is encouraging members to focus on increasing impact.
I saw so much need that I started a grant for $330,000 for economic development. We trained over 3,000 women in basic economic skills during a four-year period.
The structure of that particular grant was powerful, sustainable, and well organized. I could see the level of commitment that Rotary had made to enable members to actually implement life-changing grants. I visited the project 21 times over the next nine years and saw how truly transformative the process can be. When we interviewed the women, they said again and again how much the project changed their lives. They said “I never thought that I could save money.” To continue reading, link herehttps://bit.ly/3y8p0uO
