BINGO! ISSUE
MARCH 11, 2017
NEWS, NOTES & NONSENSE
MUSEUM TOUR
We're back, and just in time to take a wonderful tour of the new East Alton History Museum, located on the top floor of the Fred Bright Vital Service Building. Ron and Kelly gave us an delightful tour as our program. There are 15 different themed rooms loaded with all sorts of memorabilia. Go take a look, you won't be disappointed. There's no video. The photos have been posted in the 2016-17 file.
Bill arrived at 11:25 wanting to know Allen's whereabouts. Good question. He never arrived. Roger, Sandy, Wendell and Deisy all arrived about the same time. Now here's the dilemma. Paul, Chris and Randy were among the last to arrive, but they were in the house by noon. Does that make them late?
The room lights were back to normal this week.
The meal included ham and cheese sammies, cream of something soup, salad, fruit and cake.
We are still waiting to hear what our net $$$ are from Winter Wonderland (anyone seen grandpa or his gang at the Argosy) and the basketball tournament.
Wendell and Deisy have recently return from a trip to Cuba and a stay in Havana. Their trip to the beach was for "educational" purposes.
Disco Bingo is tonight (March 11th). If you signed up, show up. Rhonda is happy with ticket sales, strangers have been calling her looking for tix. Her guesstimate is that our club will sell about 100 tickets. Much better than the first time. Sandy claims that she and Sherry have sold about 40 tickets to folks who have had their assessment lowered. There's no correlation.
Roger covered for Sherry, who missed the delightful hot rolls.
Where's Cory? Somewhere behind Bill.
Joe suggested that whatever Sandy sez about him is true. I'd be careful there!
Bill recently return from his Presidential PETS training. He really enjoyed his experience and observed that, when compared to other clubs our size, we do a darn fine job. Next year the district will be trying to track volunteer hours from all clubs.
Erin was selling EAWR Foundation cash raffle tickets for $20. The drawing will take place on the Ides of March (the 15th). There will be fourteen cash prizes, with the grand prize being as much as $4000. She still has tickets available.Give her a call pronto.
Speaking about the 15th, Bill's church is sponsoring a Lunch and Learn event on that day. The topic is identity theft and scams.Free lunch starts at 11:45, the program follows and concluded at 12:50. For more info call Bethalto UMC @ 377.8413.
SAA Bill had everyone throw a buck in the bag and called it a day. He did share a couple of trivia tidbits.
Opening duties were provided by Rick, Roger and Bill.
50-50 opportunities were wasted by Bill and Wendell. Lori won the scratch-off. The $120 jackpot awaits its next challenge.
That's all from here. Have a fine and dry weekend.

More than friends, Rotary Peace Fellows are a family
By Hermanto Hasan, A Rotary Peace Fellow at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand
When I found out I was accepted for the Rotary Peace Fellowship at the prestigious Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, I was filled with happiness and also surprise. I had applied for several fellowships in the past, but all required a university degree, which I do not have.
I had started working while I was still a high school student as a humanitarian worker to help victims of conflict in my homeland of Aceh, and gave up the opportunity to go to university because I wanted to help my people in the middle of an escalating war. The fact that the Rotary Peace Fellowship valued my experience working in conflict over a formal university degree was unexpected to me, and I am extremely grateful and excited for this opportunity. A man goes to see the Rabbi. "Rabbi, something terrible is happening and I have to talk to you about it."
The Rabbi asked, "What's wrong?"
The man replied, "My wife is going to poison me."
The Rabbi, very surprised by this, asks, "How can that be?"
The man then pleads, "I'm telling you, I'm certain she's going to poison me. What should I do?"
The Rabbi then offers, "Tell you what. Let me talk to her, I'll see what I can find out and I'll let you know."
A week later the Rabbi calls the man.
He says, "I spoke to your wife on the phone for three hours. You want my advice?"
The man said, "Yes" and the Rabbi replied, "Take the poison."
