Our program was presented by Lewis & Clark Habitat for Humanity Affiliate board member Val Harris. The local Affiliate covers Madison, St. Clair and Bond counties with five different chapters. They currently hold mortgages on 45 houses. They average three new house builds a year, with a goal of five per year. Val shared some statistics about affordable housing and welcomed everyone to get involved. They do sponsor a ReStore shop in Collinsville. For more info, link here https://www.lchabitat.org

Prez Robin is looking forward to her beach vacay.
JoeS advised RhondaB that more seats are available to members who arrive before noon.

MarkSm introduced a work associate he brought as a guest.
MarkA announced that our Family Cookout/Steak Fry is scheduled for October 20th. He will be needing some help.
BillP suggested that everyone make a donation to Riverbend Family Ministries to help with water damage cleanup.
Among the 22 members in the house on Thursday, the early birds were represented by DarrenC, AllenH, Prez Robin and MarkSp. LeonardB was last in @ 12:10, proceeded by BradL, PaulH and GeorgeM.
BillP was our program host on Thursday and one had to wonder if he felt somewhat conflicted with being stuck at a meeting when the Cards had a comeback win with a walk-off hit by Nutbar?
AllenH declared Robin Carlton as the "First Woman of East Alton".
Our Chili Supper will be held on Friday October 14th. We need a chairperson. We will set up shop at EA-WR high school.
RhondaB announced the recent birth of her 3rd granddaughter.
SAA LeonardB, with an assist from lugmeister BillP collected Happy Fines from himself and Prez Robin. Questions about Wally Pipp, Paul Harris and Illinois governorship followed.
PrezRobin wants everyone to try and attend our September 1st meeting to greet our new District Governor.
Chef Bob returnedand served sauced chicken breast, whipped skin-on taters, rolls, salad and mixed cakes.
Opening duties were handled by Prez Robin, DaveA and BillP, who was thankful for the warm weather and shorts.
Birthday greeting go out to RandyN on the 12th.
MarkSp and AllenH (once again) tried to find the joker and claim the $59 jackpot. Didn't happen. CoryG won the scratch-off.

When Roman Emperor Hadrian took power in 117 CE, he wanted to secure his empire. One area under threat was the northern territory of what is now Great Britain. Hadrian needed a way to protect the empire's land from northern invasions from the Pict tribes, so he ordered his army to build a wall that would stretch across the width of the island. The 73-mile wall began in the east at Wallsend and ended in the west at Solway Firth. It stood almost 20 feet high in some places and was nearly 10 feet wide. Nearly 2,000 years later, there are areas where the original wall remains standing. It's now a UNESCO World Heritage Site that receives thousands of visitors every year.

PattiA was seeking ideas from the WR members regarding a proposed fund raising banquet.
PatB was the program coordinator for the EA meeting.
It was announced that Virginia Kirkpatrick would receive the Paul Harris Fellowship award at the aforementioned banquet.
LoriP, BillP and RodC were among the early arrivals at the EA meeting and dined on the bourbon chicken entree.
WR Happy Fines were paid by MikeK and JimH. BillP paid a $5 scooter fine at the EA meeting.
WendellR provided an update on the EA sponsored cleft palate project in Columbia.
ScottL provided the WR invocation and PaulG introduced visitors.
Exchange student Dani Fuentes would be arriving on August 21st. All members were encouraged to meet her at Lambert that AM.
PattiA wiffed on the $235 WR jackpot. SherryT and BradP did the same with the EA $35 pot.
A member of the 1994 U.S. Olympic Festival provided the WR program. It was noted that ScottL assisted with the Olympic Torch Run as it passed through WR.
RhondaB and BillP assisted with opening duties at the EA meeting.
