  • Happy Thanksgiving to all. Enjoy the holiday with your family and friends. Our next meeting on December 5th will be our Christmas party event. If you plan to attend, sign up online or let Lori know. Bring a $10 gift and wear your ugly Christmas sweater. See you then.
  •  Thanks to your generous support we were able to donate $416 to Operation Blessing to use in providing food during the holiday season. Well done!
  • Thursday delightful program was presented by Kellie Frohnert and Brad Hofidetz, two members of the Goshen Theater Project. Kellie sang five songs accompanied by Brad on keyboard. They are part of the cast of Scrooge, the Musical, which will be presented on December 5-7 at the Nazarene Community Theater in Roxana. Show time is 7:30 each evening. They promised a fun show for the entire family. Tickets can be purchased via http://www.showtix4u.com
  • We had 20 members in the house. Allen, Rodney, Bill and BradL were the early-birders. Dave, MarkV, BradP and Rhonda were among the last in. Good to see one and all!
  • Want to know something I'm thankful for? The great ministers we have had as club members: Dick Hogan, Don Silverthorne, Lou Zuck, Larry Lacher, Bill and Rodney. All great guys, all different.
  • The sign-up sheet for the Christmas Wonderland event on December 10th is circulating, there's still a couple of slots that need to be filled.
  • Our special Thanksgiving lunch featured prime rib with au jus and horsey sauce (Sherry found the medium well pieces). It was accompanied by broccoli florets, mostaccioli, rolls, mixed greens salad and dessert.
  • It was nice to seen Nate back in the room. He's been busy drumming up tourist business for our part of the universe.
  • We will be ringing bells for the Salvation Army on December 7th from 10AM-8PM at the Wood River Wal Mart. The sign-up sheet is circulating. There are still a few slots unfilled. If you would like to sign-up for additional shifts (on other dates), you can easily do so via this link http://www.registertoring.com
  • Opening duties were performed by Wendell, BradP and Bill.
  • Rod arrived looking like an IRS auditor.
  • Happy birthday to BradP. Happy 29th Rotary member anniversary to Wendell.
  • Former Rotarian and club president Roger Werts joined us for lunch. It's always nice to see his smilin' face.
  • Bill was subbing for Lori and distributed the Rotary Health Check survey. Everyone was asked to complete it at the meeting or take it with you and submit to Lori ASAP for compilation.
  • Alex announced that all four scholarship students have been selected. He hoped to host them at a December meeting.
  • Note to Sandy-Sherry was not in Florida.  Sherry suggested that you believe what Sandy tells you at your own peril.
  • Super-sub SAA Alex fined those not here last week and everyone not making a Thanksgiving contribution to help others. Andrew served as the lugmeister. Trivia topics included the USSR, smallpox, "Saving Private Ryan" and boxing. We aced them all!
  • The $141 rolled. Allen and Bill refused to pull the joker. MarkA was trying to figure out how much he won with the scratch-off.
  • That's it, have a fine and dry weekend. Ciao!

COMING TO THE RESCUE OF BEES

By Gundula Miethke

Every year Rotaract clubs throughout Germany look for a common initiative to participate in on a country-wide basis to demonstrate their commitment to social action. This effort includes hands-on activities, lectures, and public awareness around a single issue. This year, that issue centered on an environmental theme, protecting wild bees.
A Swiss documentary “More than Honey” left a lasting impression on one Rotaractor, who convinced other Rotaract and Rotary members about the menacing problem that these little superheroes find themselves in, one that impacts us as humans as well. The hard-working wild bees are responsible for pollinating more than 75 percent of our crops and wild plants. If they die out, we cannot survive either.
Most of the dangers for bees are caused by humans. Climate change, monocultures and pesticides are just some of the major threats. So how can these problems be addressed? German Rotaractors launched the BeeAlive project to support wild bees in three ways. to continue reading, link here https://bit.ly/2OotpmD

Carol and Donna were doing some carpentry work on a Habitat for Humanity house. Carol, who was nailing down house siding, would reach into her nail pouch, pull out a nail and either toss it over her shoulder or nail it in.
Donna, figuring this was worth looking into, asked, 'Why are you throwing those mails away?'
Carol explained, 'When I pull a nail out of my pouch about half of them have the head on the wrong end and I throw them away.'
Donna got completely upset and yelled, 'You moron! Those nails aren't defective! They're for the other side of the house!'
