CLAIRE'S WELCOMING COMMITTEE
We welcomed our first non-Rotarian program presenter of the pandemic era, Claire Cooper, Development Specialist with the Child Advocacy Center in Wood River (Township Hospital). She gave us a comprehensive overview of the services that are offered to abused children of Madison and Bond counties. In a normal year they serve about 500 children. The CAC was established in 2003 to give potentially abused children a safe environment in which they can tell their story and receive therapy and other services.
The regular program schedule will resume on October 22nd. If you are unable to attend your scheduled presentation meeting let Prez Chris know so he can can find a replacement presenter. Remember, your speaker can attend via Zoom if that is their preference.
Rod, sporting Cardinal red, was an early scooter.
Sandy is pleased with the results of the Lasik surgery to her right eye. Surgery on the left one happens soon.
Prez Chris issued a proclamation that Thursday was a calorie free day.
MarkS has a spring in his step after a cortisone shot on Tuesday eliminated his recent pain in the back.
Lunch featured sliced roast beast, whipped taters, Rotary g-beans, rolls, salad and cake with high plate appeal.
The Turkey Fund can made its first appearance of the year. All $$ collected will be given to Operation Blessing to use for Thanksgiving food purchases. If you want to donate via check, make it payable to Operation Blessing. If you prefer to donate via PayPal of Venmo, Rick will accept payment and convert it to cash for the cause. Alex made an in person presentation to East Alton-Wood River students on Thursday about our scholarship program. He was pleased with the response.
There was plenty of baseball chatter before the meeting. Zero love for Bader, too much love for Molina.
Congrats to Ty for being recognized as a Community Champion in 2020.
Early arrivals among the 15 in the house included Alex, Allen, MarkS and Lori. Post-nooners were represented by Bill, Emily, BradP and Paul. We had no Zoomie attendees.
Lori has lots and lots of Football Mania tickets , pick up a pack today! Winning opportunities begin on October 29th.
SAA Sherry and lugmeister Prez Chris worked the room for $$. Chris kicked it off by paying a $ for praising the adjustment skills of Paul. Lori paid a buck to happily announce that her kitchen will return to service after being off line for five weeks. We answered two out of four trivia Q's correctly. Sherry saved a good fine for next week. Bring your $$.
Opening duties were performed by MarkS, BradP and Bill.
The $24 jackpot was unclaimed by Sandy (two weeks in a row) and Lori (3 weeks in a row). BradP was left scratching.

When the Beatles wrote “Ticket to Ride” for their second movie, “Help!,” they took the opportunity to experiment a bit. WHAT ROTARY HAS TO OFFER YOUNG MEMBERS

What’s life like for people between the ages of 18 and 35 in the Boothbay Region of Maine? Through Rotary, young people take on leadership positions that expand their skills while they serve. Rotary does more than help during a crisis like COVID-19; it provides experiences that translate into a better future in any career.
The Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor created a new membership level to make joining more accessible for those under the age of 35. In addition, generous club members have chosen to pay the first year membership costs for the first five new members in this category.
We call it the Rule of 35 and it reduces dues by more than 50% for those under the age of 35. It’s a commitment by our club to keep growing and learning, and to keep inviting young people to see what skills they can develop and add to their own resumes. It’s an invitation to make a difference.
Through Rotary, I have discovered what is possible when a group of like-minded individuals get together to make a difference. It matters not at all that we come in many shapes and sizes, backgrounds, or age-ranges.
