Enjoy your Thanksgiving traditions with family and friends. We'll return in a couple of weeks. Happy Thanksgiving!
On Thursday PaulH shared his insight regarding one of his recent reads, a book by Casey Means MD titled "Good Energy". Dr. Means is an advocate for good nutrition and lifestyle changes to help manage our health and helping to avoid chronic health issues.
The Christmas Wonderland signup sheet is now circulating. We'll be dancing among Grandpa's lights on December 17th, 5:30-9:30.
Early arrivals included AllenH, KendraG and BradP.
The Turkey Fund jar has made it's final appearance of 2024. Your generous donations will allow Prez Bill to make a presentation to the fine folks at Operation Blessing in the amount of $551. It will be used to make the holiday a bit brighter for those in need.
Birthday greetings go out to BradP today!
AllenH, WendellR and BradP shared fond memories of their youthful burger haunts. Big and cheap seemed to be the theme.
Our next meeting will feature nominations/elections for our 2025-26 club officers. Here's a heads up, if you aren't in attendance it's likely that you will be elected to a club officer position, maybe President? Why take the chance?
Congrats to WendellR for his 33 years of club service.
The Slide Right In (SRI) crowd was represented by-ChrisH, RodneyD, MikeK and JohnP.
JoeS announced that there will not be a basketball tournament this year.
Post-nooners included MarkV, JohnP, MikeK, GeorgeM and PattiA.
SAA Patti collected quite a few $$ when we failed to correctly answer her Thanksgiving Q's.
We had 20 members dining on Teriyaki pork, steamed mixed veggies, rolls, salad gooey butter cake.
MarkA and ChrisH pulled a couple of dud cards while BillP won the scratchie.
Opening duties were covered by KendraG, MikeK and RodneyD.

DonnaK announced that the WR Rotary Raffle made $2,200. GeorgeT and JeanK were the top ticket sellers. PaulG donated his $250 winnings back to the club.
Exchange student Dani Fuentes broke bread with the EA members. While Junior Rotarians Jacob Smith and Niah Bevolo attended the WR gathering.
SherryT arrived home at 4AM following a trip to Arizona. BillP suggested that sleep is overrated.
Happy Fines were paid by CherylM, JeanK and PaulG.
MarkSp has walked away from suits and ties. One wag wondered if flip flops and shorts will be his new workday attire?
PaulG introduced visitors while PattiA served as the greeter.
MarkV announced that there will be Salvation Army bell ringing opportunities.
MarkA was feeling kinda blue with wife Nancy away.
New scholarship students were selected from a pool of 9 EA-WR and 11 RHS students.

14 years of RYLA, 14 years of Rotary working in and for my life

There is a fable called The Starfish Story, which is a powerful reminder of our impact. The story goes, a young child throws stranded starfish back into the ocean one by one. When questioned about the futility of their efforts due to the vast number of stranded starfish, they pick up another and say, “It made a difference to that one.” If we can make a difference in just one person’s life each year through Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), it’s a worthy endeavor that I am committed to.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive leadership experience organized by Rotary clubs and districts for young people to develop skills as a leader while having fun and making connections. My journey with RYLA started 14 years ago with a simple desire to create an Interact club on my high school campus. A supportive teacher recognized my eagerness and introduced me to the world of Rotary. Sunnyvale Sunrise Rotary Club offered me a unique deal: attend a RYLA summer camp and, when the following school year began, they would support me with starting an Interact club. I eagerly agreed, not realizing how my life was about to change.
As I arrived at Camp RYLA, I was greeted by nearly 200 students from across the California Bay Area and an atmosphere that was electric with excitement and camaraderie. Then, I received my nametag – my name was misspelled as “Raja” instead of “Rajah.” A seemingly trivial detail became a significant part of my RYLA story. In pursuit of a simple fix, I approached a RYLA support staff member, Ben Macatangay. This encounter marked the beginning of a lifelong connection.
Ben, a central figure of Camp RYLA District 5170 and former Rotarian, personifies the spirit and magic of RYLA. He became my mentor, friend, and family, guiding me through 14 years of personal growth. While RYLA’s primary focus is to equip campers with leadership and service skills, an intangible element exists – a force that instills the motto of “service above self” deep within us. This force keeps many of us returning to RYLA year after year. To continue reading,
