NEWS, NOTES & NONSENSE
NO BILL...NO PROBLEM
Wendell introduced wife Deisy and her friends Ana and Claribelle, who performed a Columbian folk dance. Very interesting! The video has been posted.
19 members dined on beef stew, corn, mac 'n cheese, rolls, salad and cup cakes.
Anyone seen Sherry or Sandy?? Was it something Bill said?
Prez Bill and Treasurer Cory were MIA. Secretary Lori was accounted for. Prez-Elect Patty covered for Bill.
Queenie informed us that her last official act before starting her vacay was her SAA duties. Gotta like that dedication. She drafted Chris2 to do the heavy lifting. Not here last week, pay a $. Not going on vacay, pay a $. Joe, Patty and Dave had announcements/plugs. Trivia Q's included quotes, trampolines, NFL and music. The only table to answer correctly had only two very high quality members seated there, Wendell and Rick. Raise your hand if you are surprised, better yet, pay a $.
Brad2, Pat and Allen were the early birds. Joe, Chris2, Nate and Paul arrived post-noon.
Listening to the early bird table talk you would have thought that were several volcanologists in the house.
We welcomed pastor Andrew as our only Rotarian guest. He shared a story about Lori helping him to make a reading connection.
This past Monday Queenie and Randy presented awards to our Roxana scholarship students.
Karen, our regular server, was not here for the second consecutive week. Trouble in paradise?
Fruitless attempts to claim the 50-50 jackpot were made by Paul and Brad1. Wendell took home the scratch-off to present to Deisy.
Opening duties were performed by Rhonda, Matt and Dave
That's all from here, have a fine and dry weekend.

WHY WOULD I TURN DOWN A SIX-FIGURE SALARY?
By Rhett Martin, Rotaract Club of Silverton, Oregon, USA
Everyone comes to a crossroad at least once in their life. As a young adult, I have actually already faced two big-time choice moments. The first came six years ago when deciding whether or not to quit school in order to start a career I knew nothing about. The second came twelve months ago as I was presented with a job offer from one of the world’s biggest, up-and-coming tech companies. The job would pay over six figures, offer great health benefits and stock options, as well as a chance to expand my professional experience. The catch? I would have to leave the quaint little town I love for the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles.
In the end, I opted not to take the job. But I decided that if I was going to pass it up, I needed to give all I’ve got to the community I chose over money and career expansion. Coincidentally, around the same time, a spot on the Silverton City Council opened up. Instead of appointing a replacement as usual, the mayor and council decided to open the position up for applications. Becoming a city councilor and eventually mayor has always been a goal of mine, but for when I was in my 30’s or 40’s – not at the age of 26. To continue reading, link herehttps://bit.ly/2L3P953
