MARK FLASHES THE CASH...
NEWS-NOTES-NONSENSE
On Thursday we had the pleasure of hearing from the local chapter of Sleep In Heavenly Peace (SHP) Co-President Dave Hardwick. The organization began in 2012 and now has 400 chapters across the US. The local chapter was formed in 2020. In a nutshell, they build beds for children who don't have one.Dave indicated that there are about 18,000 children ages 3-17 in the are served by this chapter. About 3% of them have no bed to sleep in. The beds are build by volunteers in the Alton workshop. SHP has several 3 hour bede building workshop each month, making a maximum of 20 beds per session. Dave is thankful for the local support of the program. In September the local chapter hit the 1,000 built/donated bed mark. Want to know more, visit SHPbeds.org

The Turkey Fund jar is now circulating. It will be available every Thursday until Thanksgiving. We have collected $415 to date. All funds will be donated to Operation Blessing. Please make your check payable to Operation Blessing.Thanks for your generous support!

Congrats to BradP on 34 years of club service.
JoeS told us that our golf tournament net will be a bit north of $5K. He's not sure if there will be a basketball tournament on December 15th. If there is, there will be a quick turn around for t-shirt sponsorships.
Bill presented GlennB with his name badge and encouraged him to wear it whenever he visits a business and see of there is a Rotary discount.
The Slide Right In (SRI) crowd included RodneyD, WendellR, GlennB, PaulH, DaveA and MikeK.
LoriP had a great cruise and family visit. Glad to have her back!
Post-nooners included SandyS, SherryT, MikeK and DaveA.
MarkV indicated that the December 7th Salvation Army bell ringing list has one slot available.
WendellR advises to not steal someone else's false teeth. (Another Steve Imel tall tale.)
SAAsuper-sub BillP worked hard to "fleece the flock" with his trivia Q's. He seemed happy with the results. MikeK served as the lugmeister.
We had 21 members dining on beef 'n noodles, steamed mixed veggies, potato salad, noodle salad, rolls, salad and cookies.
With 8 cards left, MarkSm found the joker!! Congrats! He donated his $340 winnings to the Sleep in Heavenly Peace organization. MikeK also drew a card and ChrisH won the scratchie.
Opening duties were covered by WendellR, MikeK and RodneyD.

The WR members heard a presentation about the Affordable Care Act. The EA members found out about Complete Fitness in Edwardsville.
The tri-club Rotary meeting would be held on November 14th. Proceeds would benefit the Community Hope Center.
"Cousin" Jeff Dyer was making the rounds promoting the upcoming Bethalto club's citrus sale.
The WR club received an award for having the highest per-capita Rotary Foundation contribution in the district.
20 EA members dined on Julia's fried chicken. MarkSp was the sub-treasurer, JoeS was the sub-SAA and LoriP was the sub-photobug.
AlanaY and DonnaK were thanked for coordinating the recent Halloween parade event.
Both clubs were recognized for their efforts (along with the Bethalto club) for the recently completed pavilion at the Hartford Splash Park.
EA members were signing up for the Christmas party and Salvation Army bell ringing.
Junior Rotarians Carson Foust and Shelby Morrison visited the WR club.
JohnP reported that he was making good progress on the upgraded website.
PattyW was the newest EA club member. She was sponsored by MarkSp.
MarkV announced that his son Michael recently underwent a 2-year biopsy and the results were good.
PaulH was the designated lugmeister.
