We had a club assembly on Thursday. Prez Robin told us that the board has approved donations for the WR Library summer reading program and a golf tournament. We are looking to create a co-treasurer position.
First to arrive included AllenH, MarkA and MikeK.

Don't forget about registering for our Installation Dinner on June 22nd. RodneyD reminded everyone to please "accept" or "decline" your invite. If you don't respond, you will continue to receive reminder emails. The deadline to to sign-up is June 14th.
MarkSm is still accepting Business of the Year nominations. Nominated businesses can't be current Rotary member owned.
Congrats to AllenH for his 48 years of club service.
Arriving @ 10 past high noon (+/-) were JohnP,LeonardB, SteveSm and TylerL.
We learned that Chef Bob will be retiring next month. Happy for him, sad for us. He's treated us very well for many years.
TylerL invited everyone to see the EA Rec Center's new pickleball courts. AllenH sez they look fabulous. He told everyone that Tyler is doing a great job.
RodC arrived with his name tag already in place.
Table talk @ JoeS's table centered on our beloved (except for JohnP) Redbirds. The consensus seemed to be that everyone is tired of hearing about the team being tired. Joe sez he is sickand tired of watching this team as a fan. He went on to suggest that the coaching staff is the worst in his long memory. Now, let's talk about the positives...short list.
It was to nice to have our monthly Speciale guest in the house.
We welcomed Riverbend club members Jeanne and Karen.
20 members dined on sliced ham, mac 'n cheeze, rolls, salad and cookies.
Birthday wishes to Marks A & V, both on June 5th.
The reopening of the Alton Golden Corral brought a smile to AllenH's face and a tingle to his tummy.
MikeK reminded us that the River Dragons baseball season is starting. Time to head to the Hop!
SAA LeonardB returned and asked JoeS to"pass the hat". What did you do to celebrate Memorial Day was Leonard's question. If you didn't do anything MD specific, pay a $.
Opening duties were handled by Prez Robin, AllenH and RodneyD.
BradP and MarkA each took a turn looking for the joker. Not this week. LoriP won the scratch-off, which yielded zero value.

In April 1996, an unmanned weather station on Barrow Island, Australia, measured the gusts of Tropical Cyclone Olivia, which reached speeds of 253 mph. Up until then, the strongest observed wind gust was recorded at Mount Washington in New Hampshire in 1934, with speeds of 231 mph. Although surpassed by Barrow Island’s winds, Mount Washington still holds the record of the strongest winds recorded at a manned weather station. While these are both exceedingly strong wind speeds, tornado winds are even stronger. However, they cannot be recorded by an anemometer, which is the official measurement meted out by the World Meteorological Organization.

PaulG paid a visit to the EA club seeking assistance with the upcoming Color Run. He was also recognized by the WR club for being the most successful fund raising Prez in club history.
The EA club heard a presentation about English as a Second Language program. AlanaY made a presentation about Waggoner Equipment Rentals to fellow WR members.
BarbO was thanked for her willingness to serve as the club VP.
EA club members were reminded that the Village Cleanup Day was scheduled for the following Saturday. We would be working the Route 3 corridor.
ScottL, DonnaK and AlanaY announced the following scholarship recipients-Emily Richards, Jessica Levan, Riley Self, Rebekah Null, Jacob Martin and Lucas Westbrook.
EA members wished RhondaB a speedy recovery from her broken ankle injury.
JohnP was recruiting a new SAA to serve during the upcoming Rotary year.
SandyS and SherryT returned from their recent "training" trips.
GeorgeT and CherylM paid Happy Fines.
The EA Paul Harris committee met post-meeting and selected the new PHF.
JohnP introduced meeting guests and DaveA selected the Song of the Day.
BradP won the $95 jackpot as well as the scratch-off.

From Australia to the Netherlands, Rotary youth programs have shaped me

My journey with Rotary actually began before I was born.
I’m the fourth generation of my family to be connected with the Rotary Club of Nerang, Queensland, Australia. My great-grandfather was charter president, my grandfather was a charter member and past president, and my mum – the first woman invited to join the club in 2000 – became the club’s first female president in 2007.
Then there’s me. When I was one year old, I made a splash in the World Swim for Malaria community swim. I’ve been a proud participant in Interact, Rotary Youth Exchange, Rotex (Rotary Youth Exchange alumni) and the National Youth Science Forum, of which Rotary is a founding partner. Ultimately, Rotary youth programs have had a significant role in shaping who I am today.
My school-based Interact club held Paint Your Pinky Purple activities to raise awareness of Rotary’s work to eradicate polio. Barbecues and raffles were a common occurrence.
