NEWS, NOTES & NONSENSE
TOO MANY CHOICES
Darren introduced our program presenter, Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn. He shared a sobering presentation about the abuse of heroin in the county. Take a look at the video.
24 smilin' Rotarians represents our best attendance since??? (Lori or Cory would know). Sherry, Sandy, Darren, Allen and Pat represented the early vanguard. Joe, both Brad's and Rhonda were the last in. No matter when you arrive, it's nice to have you in the house.
Mark 1 pronounced Wendell "both perceptive and observant."
Paul observed that "the typical man is a good listener."
The lunch line included a variety of options: lasagna, pork and dressing, boiled mixed veggies, popcorn, salad, sugar free pudding (with a dollop), banana(?) bread and, for the first time ever, yogurt. I'm tired from typing all that.
Bill observed that the lasagna was a troublesome friend of a white shirt. (He was right!)
Uncle Leonard was our solo visiting Rotarian.
Roger was a scooter, but paid for it.
Joe appeared with a nice George Hamilton tan. He claimed that his bronzed visage was the result of pounding the pavement around town looking for things to fix.
Paul observed that it's not a Cadillac, it's a Bentley!
Lori is looking for a race car driver for September 10th. Qualification: must be at least 7 years old, 4'-4'9" in height and 55-90 lbs in weight.
Opening duties were provided by Joe, Paul and "short 'n sweet" Bill.
Rhonda suggested that we put together a gift basket to welcome exchange student Daniela when she attends the September 1st meeting, along with our District Governor. Items of local/historical interest, gift cards and cash donations will be accepted.
SAA Bill recruited Vanna (Sandy) as his bag person. We sang birthday greetings to Randy. Does Bill's mustache tickled? The trivia topics covered American Graffiti, Ronald Reagan, baseball and football. Rhonda asked, "what the hell?" Conspiracy theory:there was serious speculation that Allen intentionally tanked on the baseball question in order to enhance the $$ collected. Maybe his mind was off in the unfindable crawl space.
Bethalto Rotarian Neena will be on hand next week selling Cash-A-Poolaza ticket for $10 per.
Lindsey and Mark 1 drew the cards, Lori the scratch-off. The $43 jackpot rolled.
That's all from here. Have a fine and dry weekend.

Last week Cecil Neunaber introduced Lonnie Watkins, who spoke about the Community Counseling Center.
Mark 1 was fined for being late (seriously?). Rick was unable to answer the Olympic trivia question. (Atlanta, perhaps?)
We were looking for a Race of Fun driver. Our race "mission" would be crowd control. The Operation Blessing roadblock was slated for October 14th.
We were considering raising a little money by displaying "your" business card in The Banner.
The next board meeting would be on September 3rd at Moonlight.

Are you willing to be third class, and serve?
By Tiffany Ervin, past president of the Rotary Club of Four Seasons – Hendersonville, North Carolina, USA
In the days of the American wild west, if you wanted to travel a great distance, you had to go by stagecoach and it was a very long trip. There were three different classes of passengers – first, second, and third class. The seats were all the same, but the prices were different. Here’s why…
First class meant you remained seated during the entire trip, no matter what happened or what conditions might be faced.
Second class meant you remained seated until there was a problem along the way, when you had to exit the stagecoach and walk alongside.
But third class passengers not only exited when there was a problem, they were also the ones who had to fix a broken wheel or even push the stagecoach along, through the mud, up the hills, no matter what came along.
So I began thinking about this when it comes to our involvement in Rotary. Let me ask you – what class ticket do you hold? To continue reading, link herehttp://bit.ly/2auACMu
