In the Installation Dinner recap in last weeks' Eastender News your editor must have liked Steve "The Crooner" so much that he renamed MarkSm as "Steve". We know better. At any rate, Rustic Roots is still our Business of the Year selectee.
On Thursday TylerL hosted us at the Keasler Rec Plex for a Pickleball overview, presented by Ruby Berghoff, and an on-court demonstration, hosted by Jorge Salgueiro. The sport was created in Washington State in 1965. It grew exponentially during the pandemic, and now has about 9 million U.S. players. We did discover that our game needs a bit of work. Thanks to Tyler, his rec assistant and girl friend for assisting with hosting duties. Well done!
Our next noon gathering will feature a presentation by the Curtain's Up Theatrical Company. They will be previewing selections from their next production, The Wizard of Oz. Just follow your own Yellow Brick Road to Julia's.
Early arrivals included Prez Rodney, TylerL, AllenH and BradL.
Our guests included Riverbend Rotarian Jeanne, SandyS's hubby Dennis and MarkA's brother Winn.

Opening duties were handled by JohnP and RickH.
23 members dined on Chef Bob's chicken tenders, garlic whipped taters, Rotary g-beans, rolls, salad and cookies.
Last in the house included GeorgeM, MikeK, JohnP and BradP.
SAA PattiA fined everyone who is not a Pickleball player, although a goodwill opt-out option was offered. A Happy Fine was cheerfully paid by LeonardB.

Below the capital of Mississippi lies the dormant volcano known as the Jackson Volcano. Discovered in the early 19th century, the volcano is believed to be some 70 million years old and dormant for the better part of its existence. The volcano lies 2,900 feet below the surface of Jackson. And it’s not the only volcano within the limits of a U.S. city: Portland, Oregon, is home to Mount Tabor; Bend, Oregon, is home to Pilot Butte; and Honolulu, Hawaii is home to Diamond Head.

At the 2023 International Convention in Melbourne, Australia, young leaders from the Interact and Youth Advisory Councils presented "The Future is Now: Growing Youth Voices" to a full breakout session audience! In this session, councilmembers and RI Director Vicki Puliz discussed how youth can have a larger impact across Rotary clubs, districts, and zones and why youth participation matters.
