RODNEY TALKS ROTARY
NEWS-NOTES-NONSENSE
On Thursday Prez Rodney, with an assist from LeonardB, made a presentation about the Rotary Annual Fund and Rotary Direct.
Prez Rodney thanked all those who helped to make our Color Run a success. A job well done by all!
Birthday wishes to PatrickA on the 9th.
Early arrivals included Prez Rodney, AllenH and LoriP.
Our Installation Dinner will be held on June 27th @ Julia's. Fellowship @ 5:30, dinner to follow. See the recent email from LoriP for the details and to accept or decline the invite. No noon meeting that day.
Post-nooners included SherryT, JohnP and LeonardB.
The SRI (slide right in) crowd was represented by-LeonardB, SherryT and GeorgeM.
RickH shared his encounter with a Rotary RV fellowship group.
Opening duties were aptly handled by PaulH, SherryT and MarkA, practicing his Scottish brogue.
LeonardB invoked the spirit of Sam Zangori and his amazing ability to sell low $$ life insurance policies. It's worth noting that Sam was the first EA club president in '71.
14 members dined on American fish 'n chips, salad, and cookies.
Acting SAA LeonardB tried to stump everyone with a few Rotary Q's. Success was fleeting.
MarkSm and HenryS let the 50-50 pot roll, GeorgeM won the scratch-off.

The first automobile Henry Ford ever designed and drove was unveiled on June 4, 1896, and was named the Quadricycle. Featuring a light metal frame with four bicycle wheels and a buggy bench seat, the vehicle was powered by a two-cylinder, four-horsepower gasoline engine. Though it didn’t have a steering wheel, brakes, or reverse gear, the early car started one of the world's biggest companies.

CORY GALLIVAN
Cory was born in Richmond Heights, MO and grew up in Alton, graduated from AHS in 1991. He received his accounting degree from St. Louis University in 1995. His early life work history included delivering newspapers and working for Frito Lay. Cory’s full-time work career began at a small tax firm in St. Louis. He then moved to his current employer, Scheffel Boyle, in 2000, where he serves as a Tax principal in the Alton office.
He married Julie McKee in 2004, who works as a reading specialist at the Gilson Brown school. They have two sons, Noah age 16 and Luke 14.
Noah runs track and cross country for AHS while Luke plays soccer. Cory tries to match his sons’ aerobic fitness by running 30-35 miles a week and has run 7 marathons, most recently the Chicago version in 2022. The family is heading to Utah this July and plans to do some hiking in Zion National Park. Cory also likes to golf, but is usually disappointed on how his golf clubs fail to keep the ball in the fairway or put it in the hole. His favorite sports are football and baseball. His favorite teams are the Cowboys and the Mets, yes, the Mets!

The WR club heard a presentation about recycling while the EA club heard about the American Cancer Society.
Both clubs had their Installation of Officers scheduled for June 29th.

LoriP announced that the Baseball Mania net to date was $747.
Volunteers were needed to make and sell lemon shake-ups and soda at the upcoming Ice Cream Social.
RickH tried to win the jackpot, PaulH won the scratch-off.

The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
First:The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service.
Second: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society.
