• On Thursday we welcomed the new(ish) MadCo Coroner Nick Novacich. He served 25 years with the Granite City Police Department before retiring last December as the Chief of Police. His police work as a detective gave him an overview of the work of the coroner's office, but not the in-depth job requirements. Nick has completed 160 hours of training that allows him to better understand the responsibilities of the office and to be conversant with the terminology with his staff. So far this year there have been 957 coroner cases in the county, including 32 overdose deaths. (Post-meeting, ChrisH pointed out that the OD number of 32  is a significant decrease since that last time previous Coroner Steve Nunn was in the house.)
• Prez Mark welcomed and introduced our newest member, Diane Schuette. She is joining us from the Riverbend club. It's great to have her with us!
• Golf tournament update- It's next Saturday, July 19th!  JoeS reported that as of noon Thursday we had 21 teams and 24 sponsors, with room to grow. If you know golfers and/or potential sponsors get their contact info to Joe ASAP and he will solicit them directly.  The sign-up sheet is now making the rounds.
• It was nice having ErinP and SherryT with us. Sherry was able to move about freely after recovering from her golfing broken ankle accident, the plate and screws not withstanding.
• Next week Prez Mark will present our Business of the Year award. We will welcome Scott Pulaski to talk about the Piasa Armory. Everyone will then be invited to the Eastgate Plaza based armory and spend an hour on the range. Scott will provide the hand guns, you must buy any ammo from the armory. You may bring your own handgun and ammo.

• TomS reminded everyone about the Bike Ramble and Ice Cream Social taking place tomorrow (Sunday).

• It's looking good for some sort of movie studio production to happen at the former Wood River Business Park. Roll cameras!
• SAA Rick recruited SherryT as the lugmeister. We nailed 3 of the 4 trivia Q's. Bob Gibson was the correct answer to the bonus trivia Q. didn't see a live fireworks show during the 4th holiday? Pay a $.
• We had 21 members in the house noshing on beef 'n noodles, Rotary g-beans, hail Caesar salad and mixed fruit.
• RickH and KristenB couldn't locate the joker but SherryT scratched up $10 on her card.
• Opening duties were covered by TomS, WendellR and BillP.
• 55% of Eastender News subscribers opened the last newsletter.
