RickH's speaker was dealing with a nasty cough and requested that his presentation be postponed. The new date May 5th. Rick did offer up a 100 plus photo slide show. LoriP and Prez Lindsey appeared in almost 1/3 of the photos.
Baseball Mania tickets are now being distributed by LoriP. Get your pack of 10 today. She still has 10 packs of tickets available. The game kicks off in July.
PaulG will soon service his last policy. He introduced his replacement Mark Smith at Thursday's meeting. We hope Mark will become our next Rotarian.
Raise your hand if you plan to visit Charlie's Drive-In for some root beer and sliders when they reopen later this month. PaulG is on board for a chili dog, PattiA wants a serving of fried broccoli.
Staying with the food theme, the 1929 pizza place in downtown Wood River is owned by folks, Amy and Matt Herren, with serious food cred. Does anyone have better sandwiches than Sammi's in Alton? Their Ruben is outstanding. By the way, they feature a lobster stuffed sandwich one a year. Total yum! Guess what the the featured sandwich was on Thursday?
A Yip-Yip, what else?Just how many pieces of chicken did Woody's get out of one bird? The Swiss Farms salad can't be beat.
We will be attending the season opening game of the Alton River Dragons baseball team on June 1st First pitch is @ 6:00. Let LoriP know ASAP if you want to be there. She plans to get a group rate on the tickets, around $10 per ticket. Your ticket charge will appear on your quarterly billing statement. Fireworks to follow the final pitch. It should be a fun group outing.
Word on the street had RhondaB and another member skipping the meeting to see My Fair Lady @ the Fox Theater.
Pre-meeting chatter included RickH announcing that Thursday marked his 43rd wedding anniversary. We found out that DarrenC will be celebrating his 40th this year. Chef Bob topped both of them with his 49th in 2022.
The Bethalto club is hosting an Easter egg hunt. The Metro East Community club will be visiting homes and placing candy filled Easter eggs in yards as a fund raiser, Egg My House (24-120 eggs, $25-$105). TyB's newest project kicks off this weekend. It's called Renegade Gardens. It's a neighborhood garden concept. Want to help? 9-noon and 1-4 today and tomorrow. 5th & Harper Streets in East Alton.
PaulG plugged the upcoming Great Rivers Choral Society fundraiser. He and DaveA have tickets available.

The race will be in person and on a new circuit that JasonW designed so runners/walkers won't get lost in the Belk forest.
LeonardB and GeorgeT offered sobering views of the war in Ukraine. Leonard encouraged us to help in some way, prayers, donations, whatever you can. George reminded us that the situation is not that much different from Hitler's WWII land grab.

Located 110 miles off the northern coast of mainland Scotland in the Northern Atlantic Ocean, the Shetland Islands are the most northerly part of the United Kingdom. Comprising rugged coastline and rolling hills, the subarctic archipelago lies between Norway, the Faroe Islands, and Great Britain. Its largest island, covering 373 square miles, is called the Mainland. Fifteen of the 100 islands are inhabited and have been since the Mesolithic period. The Vikings came from Norway in the Middle Ages, influencing the culture of Shetland. Both the Shetland and the Orkney Islands became part of Scotland in 1472, after the Scottish Crown annexed the islands.

Rich Chartrand, East Alton Library Director, presented the EA program.
The WR BOD approved a $100 donation to the Oilers Booster Club for a sign sponsorship at the upcoming golf tournament.
RodC told the EA members that the $13,000 donation toward the cleft palate program is now in the hands of the Columbian clinic who will perform 30 operations.
TommieM and PaulG were saluted by the WR members for their April birthdays!
BradL was busy collecting Business of the Year nomination forms at the EA meeting.
EA-WR Junior Rotarians Shane McKee and Heather Robinson broke bread with the WR members.
RhondaB told the EA members that the RHS Rotaract club had recently selected club officers.
GeorgeT left $119 50-50 WR dollars on the table.
AllenH suggested a Trivia Night fundraiser to the EA members. LoriP and RhondaB also offered suggestions.
JohnP paid a WR Happy Fine.
The EA Installation Dinner was slated for June 27th.

In hindsight, maybe Rotary should have called its Annual Fund something more exciting--the "Change the World Fund," perhaps? That would be a fitting name because the work supported by the Annual Fund has changed millions of lives around the world for the better and taught thousands to foster peace and understanding.
The primary driver of the Rotary Foundation's annual fundraising effort instead goes by the name Annual Fund-SHARE. The "share" is what differentiates rotary's annual fund from those of other non-profits. The funds raised are invested for three years. Then, after 5% is deducted for operating expenses, 47.5 % of the funds become District Designated Funds (DDF) that can be directed by district leaders to Foundation grants. The other 47.5% is directed to the World Fund to be spent in communities where the need is the greatest. Rotarians have responded enthusiastically to both Rotary's mission and the SHARE model. In 2020-21, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, almost 400,000 Rotary members donated to the Annual Fund. That's an impressively high rate: More than 80% of Rotary clubs donated in the past Rotary year. Nonprofit watchdog Charity Navigator has awarded the Foundation a perfect score of 100 in its ratings, with 14 consecutive years of 4-star ratings (its highest level).
FYI-On Giving Tuesday 2021(December 1) the Rotary Foundation received more than $1 million in donations.
