PICNIC WITHOUT THE ANTS
NEWS-NOTES-NONSENSE
The Alton Boys and Girls Club Executive Director, Al Womack, was our program presenter on Thursday. He has served in that position for the past 25 years. They serve about 250 school age children each day. Al enthusiastically let us know that he and his staff are committed to providing life skills and helping to maximize the potential of each of the kids they serve. During the pandemic they offered a remote learning center where a limited number of students could connect with their regular school remote instruction program. Al mentioned that upwards of 80% of the young men they serve come from a home without a male role model. The organization is in the process of trying to raise $100K to refurbish a playground at their facility. So far $66K has been collected. Al is confident that the community will support this effort. We had 22 members at Julia's and five participating via Zoom on Thursday.
Six of our members share a June 1st club service start date. BarbO has 3 years of service, TyB-4, DarrenC-15, JimH-27, ScottL-30 and MarkS-47. That's a lot of years of service. Well played to all!

Time is running out! LoriP still has lots of packs of 10 Baseball Mania tickets available. Each ticket sells for $10. Complete the bottom of each ticket and return with payment to her. We keep 65% of each ticket sold. The contest begins in July and runs 10 weeks. There are 35 weekly winners, from $10 to $250. If you win, look for a check in the mail.
Our Memorial Day picnic buffet featured ground beef and chicken patties, giant curly fries, baked beans, slaw and cookies.
CoryG advised everyone to be very careful with squirty catsup during a business lunch.
MarkA was relieved to know that the curly fries were not plantains.
SAA Sherry picked the perfect trivia Q's, we missed all four! Prez Chris kept busy scurrying about the room collecting bunches of $$.
Opening duties were professionally handled by JoeS, SandyS and RodneyD.
BradL introduced a work associate he brought as a guest.
Last in were SandyS and LeonardB.
JoeS had a paid plug for EA-WR HS grad and Eastgate owner Todd Kennedy. Joe gave a brief description of the Eastgate transformation and the open house happening that evening for the rental work space.
ChrisH and "lucky" LoriP tried to find the joker to win the $165 50-50, maybe next week. SherryT won the scratch-off.

What is the longest coastal driving route in the world?
If you've got three weeks to spare, head to Ireland for one of the world’s most spectacular coastal drives. The Wild Atlantic Way winds 1,600 miles along the entire western side of the Emerald Isle, connecting Derry in Northern Ireland with Cork in the south. It will take about that long to do the entire route justice, but the trip is broken into 14 stages, allowing those with limited time to pick and complete the portion they want to see the most.

Both club presidents were encouraging members to sign-up for the Installation of Officers event.
DaveA was recovering from heart valve surgery.
EA Prez Kevin Stuby led a club assembly discussion about raising additional funds to support the scholarship program which was committed to paying $11,000 in scholarships.
The WR club announced the names of their four 2010 scholarship students.
PaulH had to go back outside the Rec Center to make sure he was the last member to arrive.
JimH introduced the WR guests.
DaveM and MarkS were sporting some snazzy ties.
PaulG was fined by ScottL.
The EA lunch buffet featured a fried fish feeding frenzy.
ScottL paid a "happy fine" in recognition of his kids recent athletic performances.
EA SAA RickH announced that he had a goal of raising $1,000 in fines by the end of the Rotary year.
DaveM and BradP missed on a 50-50 opportunity.
Bonus-The first WR female Rotarian was Beth Mattson. It was Candy Mark in the EA club.
