TARA, MEET BILL...
NEWS-NOTES-NONSENSE
On Thursday we heard a dynamic presentation by Transformation Coach Tara Hurst. She began her transformational journey 11 years ago by losing 100 lbs. She sees her role as helping her clients to "Figure out how to get out of your own way". It's important to realize the role you play in your own misery. Tara suggested that changing your beliefs will help to change your future. She concluded by suggesting these self-improvement steps to a better you-set goals, believe in yourself, follow a healthy lifestyle and reflect on what matters. Prez Bill began circulating the signup list for our annual Christmas Wonderland outing. We'll be dancing among grandpa's lights on December 17th, 5:30-9:30.

SherryT arrived before noon and observed that she was able to accomplish that feat because SandyS wasn't with her.
JoeS announced that next years' foundation golf tournament would be held @ Belk Park on Saturday July 19th with a 9 AM tee time. SherryT offered a challenge that every member golf in a group or recruit a foursome.
LoriP reminded us that we are members of the Growth Association and to pick up a copy of the most recent GA publication that she had conveniently placed on the table next to our badges.
The Slide Right In (SRI) crowd featured a large group led by our resident expert WendellR. Also included-BradP, GlennB, RodneyD, TomS, PattiA, JohnP, PaulH and MarkV.
Upon Prez Bill's arrival LoriP turned to our guest speaker to announce that "He's the guy I warned you about".
Post-nooners included MarkV, PaulH, GeorgeM and JoeS.
SAA Patti levied Christmas related fines for having your tree up, buying presents or listing to seasonal music.
We had 18 members dining on BBQ chicken, Rotary g-beans, cheezy taters, rolls, salad and ice cream.
Working with a new deck Prez Bill and GeorgeM didn't locate the joker. RickH found the scratch-off.
Opening duties were covered by AllenH, TomS and JohnP.

The WR club heard a presentation about the Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation while the EA club learned about target marketing.
The WR Rotary Raffle made $2,290, with GeorgeT being the lead ticket seller. DonnaK was thanked for helping to manage the raffle.
Ken Harmon visited the EA meeting to pitch the Bethalto citrus sale.
Junior Rotarians Lauren Ratliff and Claire Bollinger brought cookies to share with the WR members.
Happy Fines were paid by CherylM and GeorgeT.
Signup sheets were making the rounds for Christmas flower delivery, Salvation Army bell ringing and the Christmas party.
In the absence of Prez Alana, JeanK gaveled the meeting to order while TommieM covered the SAA duties for MikeK.
Roger Werts reported that the final chili net was $1,171.

Japanese sport turns trash pickup into a competition

In Japan, picking up trash is a sport. SpoGOMI, or Sport x Trash Pickup, began in Japan in 2008 and involves teams competing to pick up the most trash. Fukushima prefecture has the dubious distinction of being one of the worst in Japan for waste generation. We have been hosting a SpoGOMI tournament every year since 2021 to reduce waste and raise awareness about littering.
We held our fourth tournament in Fukushima on 28 September, with 93 teams and 410 participants. The organization that sets the rules for SpoGOMI (which approved our event) said we had the largest number of participants ever for such a tournament. We were very pleased, as it shows that people’s interest in trash collection is growing. We are accomplishing our goal of educating the community and helping protect our environment from this waste.
For our event, each team consisted of three to five people. Teams included members of Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact as well as family members, coworkers, classmates, and friends. Small businesses have been responsible for more than 60% of net new jobs between 1995 and 2023-Small Business Administration
