On Thursday PattiA introduced Bo Gresham, Area Manager for the ECC Cable Co. (They install infrastructure for AT&T, Verizon, etc.) Bo was in the house to speak about the "Everybody Plays" program he helped to establish in the Bunker Hill School District. In a nutshell, if there's a high school student who can't afford to pay fees for sports, band or extracurricular activities, "Everybody Plays" covers those fees. If the organization has monies left over at the end of the school year the organization makes a purchase that will benefit all the high school students.
MarkS reported that the current net for our Chili Dinner is currently$2,039. 35 members have reported sales. If you still have ticket monies outstanding, please give to Mark ASAP so he can close the books on this very successful event.
BillP reminded several members that "It still take a village."
Birthday greeting go out to RobinK on the 8th, CherylM on the 14th, PatB on the 15th and RhondaB and BradP on the 18th.
FYI-We now have 2-7'X3' and 2-8'X1' RbE club banners that are available for use at any event. Additionally, we have 6 safety vests and 6 aprons with our club name/logo on them.

The Eastgate Party on the Plaza was a roaring success.PattiA's decorations were a big hit with the kids. Thanks to all who assisted on Sunday and to everyone who donated candy. Well done!
We will be sponsoring a COVID vaccine clinic on November 19th at the Keasler Rec Center, 1-4 PM. If you are available for an hour or more let LoriP know.
MarkA is very impressed when he plays golf with an 81 year old fellow who jogs to the tee.
Prez Lindsey announced that the Imagination Library program is off to a strong start.We will accept up to 100 kids, up to age 5, who have a mailing address in one of the five local zip codes that we serve. If you want to enroll a child that you know Contact Lindsey, RobinK or MarkS ASAP for the application.
JoeS managed to salvage his rather damp b-ball sign-up sheet.
Salvation Army bell ringing will take place at the WR Wal Mart Market Place door on Saturday December 11th from 10AM-8PM, 1 hour shifts, 2 people per shift. We will also ring the evenings of December 12th and 14th. The sign-up sheets are now moving around the room.

GeorgeT reminded everyone that it's not too late to sign-up to serve as a delivery driver for BarbK's Thanksgiving Day meal-259.0959, ex 233.
The Turkey Fund has grown to $469. All donations will be turned over to Operation Blessing. If you want to write a donation check, make it payable to Operation Blessing. Our next meeting on the 18th will be the final opportunity to donate. Can we make it to $500?

Since PattiA mentioned holiday fruit sales a couple of meeting ago, let's take a moment to remember Dick Bell and Max Emery, two stalwarts of the WR fruit sale cadre. The first club sale took place in the early 80's. The final one in 2006.Veteran EA members could always count on a November visit from Dick to harvest fruit orders.
The 5th & 6th grade basketball tournament is scheduled for Saturday November 20th. JoeS announced at the Thursday meeting that the tournament will have three brackets with an AM and afternoon schedule. COVID masking protocols will be in place.You may sign-up under the events link at our web site.The meeting on the 18th will be the final opportunity to volunteer. We need a lot of help to make this event a success. Work shifts will begin at 8AM and end around 5PM. You don't have to have any particular skill set to help that day.
Congrats go out to Gordon McInally for being selected as 2023-24 RI President. He is a member of the South Queensferry, Scotland club.
SAA LeonardB posed the same question to each table. "How many years has Bill Moyer been a member of the Alton-Godfrey club?" Since Bill had already told the club that he's been a Rotarian for 42 years, everyone got it right! Leonard then fined everyone a $ for the correct answer! Sometimes you just can't win.
Opening duties were handled by Prez Lindsey, BillP and RodneyD.
The $161 50-50 jackpot drawing had a wiff of impropriety when GeorgeT pull TWO of JohnP's tickets (they were seated at the same table). Neither one was the joker. WendellP won the scratch-off and won 2 bucks.

The Sea of Galilee is the largest freshwater lake in Israel. And at 686 feet below sea level, the 64-square mile lake is also the lowest-altitude freshwater lake in the world. The only lake that sits lower is the Dead Sea — a saltwater lake on the Israel-Jordan border about 90 miles away — at 1,414 feet below sea level. The Dead Sea is actually the lowest point on the Earth’s surface. Humans first settled on the shores of the Sea of Galilee (also known as Lake Tiberias) some 400,000 years ago, and the lake has significance for Christians since, in the Bible, Jesus Christ’s Sermon on the Mount took place on a hill overlooking it.

DaveA announced that dictionaries would be delivered the next day to 3rd grade students @ Lewis & Clark and Hartford schools.
New EA Rotarian MarkA presented the program, about himself.
JohnP announced that the WR Rotary Mouse Derby made $2,652.
A leaky roof at Julia's forced the meeting to relocate to another space. The 23 members were rewarded with fried chicken.
GeorgeT nominated AlanaY at the WR meeting for Rotarian of the Year for providing warehouse space and dismantling the Halloween Parade float.
ChrisH led the pledge and AllenH chanted the 4-way at the EA meeting.
EA-WR HS Junior Rotarians Keri Harmon and Mike Sabatino were welcomed at the WR meeting.
DickBell celebrated his 85th natal day at the WR meeting.
SAA RickH presented a challenging trivia Q at the EA meeting.
WR Prez ScottL provided a recap of the keynote address the RI Prez gave in St. Louis.
All three Mark's were in attendance at the EA meeting and all had something good to say.
AlanaY missed an opportunity to win the $270 WR jackpot. PaulH did the same thing at the EA meeting.
The Turkey Fund can continued to circulate at the EA meeting.
DaveA served as the greeter and PattiA was the program chair for the WR meeting.

LIGHT FOR STUDY
In the remote villages of Ndandini and Kyaithani in eastern Kenya, families live on less than $1 per day, and their homes are not connected to any electrical grid. Most cannot afford kerosene or paraffin to light their homes, which means students cannot see to do their homework in the evenings. The Rotary clubs of Sunshine Coast-Sechelt, British Columbia, and Machakos, Kenya, learned about the problem while working in the area on other projects. In 2014, the Rotarians embarked on a project bring environmentally friendly solar power into homes and schools.
About 1,500 students attending local schools were each provided a solar light under a rent-to-own program; students pay $1 per month, less than the cost of paraffin, for eight months, after which they own the light. The proceeds are used to provide another student with a solar light the following year. Project partner Kenya Connect, noting that the time students spend reading has tripled with the introduction of the solar lights, described the program as “a game changer in our efforts to improve the quality of education for rural schools.”
The project also included the construction of computer labs at two schools and a solar system to provide enough power for the entire setup. More than 200 teachers received training on digital learning and ways to better make use of computers in their teaching.
