                         ALL SMILES
  • Our guest speakers are both Master Gardeners associated with the University of Illinois Extension Service. Kim Schoenfeld and Nancy Orrill touched on several gardening topics of interest. The local group  has a small demonstration garden in Godfrey, located behind the Godfrey Village Hall. (They are sponsoring a big garden sale Saturday (today) from 9-1.) The demo garden has been used to show how to garden in small spaces, attract butterflies and build a bug hotel. Kim spent a few minutes telling us how much better native plants are than non-native species. If you are gifted a plant, and want it to survive, never say 'thank you", but  offer some other form of "thanks". Now you know!
  • ChrisH wants to know if we combine with the Wood River club, must we sing? If we combine with the Bethalto club, where will we meet? Where do they meet now? We are fortunate to be members of a heathy club.
  • Dave gave us a flood alert. How high's the water mama?
  • After getting called out by Randy in the food line, ChrisL decided to pay it forward and jump all over Lindsey for not being current with Game of Thrones. (Arya took care of business and saved the bacon of all the major characters.) Sort of related-Paul promises to bring in his K of C 4th degree sword and give us all a demo of his swordsmanship.skills Can't wait!
  • Cory announce that he received the
Glo Bingo check for $4782, comparable to the last two years. Once again, thanks to Rhonda for serving as our point person and to all those who donated, worked and participated.
  • Will Randy's boat float in the flood? Watch for that hidden stump!
  • The buffet entrees featured BBQ beef and chicken on a stick (made from pork, according to Randy). accompanied by Rotary g-beans dressed with bacon, cheezy taters, bread stix, salad and dessert.
  • Patty reminded us about Rotary Day(s) at the Ballpark this summer. June 22nd will be the Cards vs Albert. The September 28th date will be vs the Cubs.
  • Banner scanning continues. Issues thru 2003 can now be viewed at our web site.
  • It was nice to have Sherry back in the house. She recently spent  time in South Florida visiting relatives.
  • Are aliens really living in ChrisL's neighbors unkempt grass?
  • We know that Candy Runion/Mark was our first female member. Who was #2,3,4,5...? Wait for it...Thursday, time permitting.
  • Bill indicated that Jesus did, in fact, rise from the grave, at least in Bethalto.
  • The first person to arrive was...one of our guest speakers. Allen followed and was trailed by MarkS, ChrisL and BradL. BradP, Cory, Dave and ChrisH represented the post-noon crew. Not arriving at all included: MarkA, Ty, Pat, Rhonda, Darren, Nate, Matt, Virgil, Erin, DaveS, Sandy, MarkV and Emily. Hope to see some of your smiling faces on Thursday.
  • SAA Quennie drafted Randy to provide collection service. Missed the National Day of prayer? Pay a $. Not here last week? Pay a $. Bill sang Joe's praises for his Day of Prayer presentation. If you need Alex's phone #, just ask...him. Trivia topics included tonsils, gym membership, what you eat, or don't, and fear of vomiting.
  • Queenie found out that good things happen when you buy your own 50-50, you win! She pulled the joker to win $81. BradP was left with the scratch-off.
  • That's it, have a fine and dry weekend. (Good luck with that.) Ciao!

What is the world’s most populous island?
Java, Indonesia
Honshu, Japan
Luzon, Philippines
Madagascar

Java is only the world's 12th largest island, but it is home to over 140 million people. Although densely populated, the island contains plenty of natural splendor, with thick rainforests that are populated by over 5,000 species of plants and a large variety of animals, including the rare one-horned rhinoceros. They are among the most endangered mammals in the world with only around 50 adults surviving in Ujung Kulon National Park. The island is also famous for the discovery of "Java Man" in 1891, which demonstrated that a cousin species to Homo sapiens known as Homo erectus lived on the island around 1.5 million years ago.

ROTARY CHANGED THE WAY I SEE THE WORLD

LaShonda Delivuk was recently featured in a Rotarian articled titled “4 questions about attracting young people to Rotary.” As the 28-year-old president of the Rotary Club of Lynchburg Morning, in Virginia USA, she definitely knows a thing or two about younger leaders. And leading, in general. Here is the link to her interesting audio interview  https://soundcloud.com/rotaryinternational/4-questions-about-attracting-young-people-to-rotary-lashonda-delivuk
