HAPPY CHILI HEADS
NEWS-NOTES-NONSENSE
On Thursday MarkSm spent a few minutes reviewing our Chili Dinner and JoeS spent some time previewing our foundation golf tournament. We sold 30 gallons of Airliner chili, and needed more. Chilimeister AllenH remarked that it was the best chili ever! Mark will have the financial results soon. If you have chili ticket $'s, please get it to Mark ASAP. Joe reported that everything was a go for the tournament on Friday (yesterday). There will be at least 13 teams participating. He thanked TomS for providing great WR weather. The tournament is on track to meet our event fundraising goal. Joe encouraged all helpers and players to note anything that could be improved and share your insight with him in order to improve next year's event. We also spent some time talking about the details of our Feb 8th Trivia Night @ Julia's. It's not too early to start thinking about raffle gift baskets and/or items for gift baskets.
Early arrivals included MarkSp, AllenH and JoeS.
The Turkey Fund jar is now circulating. We have collected $88 to date.It will be available every Thursday until Thanksgiving. All funds will be donated to Operation Blessing. Please make your check payable to Operation Blessing.Thanks for your generous support!
RobinK was our replacement bill clanger on Thursday.
Several members had announcements-GeorgeM spoke about the Alton-Godfrey Rotary Glendale Riders concert on Nov 9th. MikeK mentioned the Riverbend Family Ministries Annual Banquet on Nov 7th. MarkV began circulating our Salvation Army bell ringing signup sheet. We will be at the WR Wal Mart on Dec. 7th. SherryT told everyone that the best time for early voting is mid-morning and mid-afternoon. GlennB announced that he shared information about the Eswatini medical project with the Alton-Godfrey Rotary club the previous Monday.
Congrats go out to HenryS on his 55 years of club service. PaulG and MikeK have been providing quality community service for 25 years.
Rumor has it that at least one of Taylor Swift's planes have been serviced at the West Star aviation facility.

Opening duties were covered by GeorgeM, MarkSp and JohnP. Mark led us in a 4-way reverse countdown.

Tied with California, New Mexico is home to three UNESCO sites: Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Taos Pueblo, and Chaco Culture National Historical Park. Carlsbad contains more than 100 limestone caves that feature unique speleothems inside. Taos Pueblo is an ancient pueblo village from the 13th and 14th centuries, while Chaco was a major Puebloan cultural center from the 10th to 12th centuries.

Did you ever wonder what impact of having a bicycle for transportation might have on a person in an impoverished country? The World Bicycle Relief organization recently published their findings regarding such a study in the African country of Zambia.
The IDinsight randomized controlled trial study, which involved 1,488 participants from 19 rural communities in Zambia, compared adults who received bicycles with those who did not. This provides a robust evaluation of the degree of impact bicycles can have in rural communities.
The results compiled from May 2023 – June 2024 show measurable improvements in economic activity, social mobility, and access to essential services for bicycle recipients. The findings highlight bicycles as an integral component of broader development programs aimed at improving access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities in mobility-challenged communities.
After one year of observation, the study found that with bicycles:
