NEWS-NOTES-NONSENSE

Thursday's guest speaker was Roy Collins, Business Representative for the Machinist Union. The STL Machinist Union is based in Bridgeton, MO and has10 local lodges.The union began in the late 1800's when a group of railroad employees formed the first Machinist Union local. There are currently 700,000 members nationwide, representing all sorts of crafts. Roy is very proud of two things, the national training center in Maryland and that no union dues are used to support political candidates.

The slide right in crew included PaulH, RodC and BradL.
When you arrive at Julia's to find two fire truck in front of the building, your first thought is that this can't be good, lunch has been burned! False alarm.
MarkA was back with us after enjoying a calming Atlantic ocean cruise.
Our Chili Supper will be held on Friday October 13th @ RHS. MarkSm reported that the sign-up sheet is now circulating and he's received several sales $$. Note this change in our SOP-The MadCo Health Department has nixed the serving of home made desserts. Mark suggests that everyone donate a high quality commercially prepared dessert for us to serve that evening. Please bring your dessert in the commercial packaging.
Are you interested in the Family Cookout/Steak Fry evening? Speak up. It's not currently on our schedule.
BradL was not only the last to arrive but also served as our guest bell ringer. He even thought about ringing Sandy's bell. Not really.
TylerL reminded us that the EA food truck event would be held tomorrow (Sunday) @ Van Preter Park, 11AM-6PM. There will be 9 trucks on hand serving all sorts of good grub. Go check it out.
SandyS introduced her guest, Deputy Township Assessor Jody.
Opening duties were handled by AllenH, ChrisH and MarkA.
TylerL indicated that scheduling issues preclude us from hosting a basketball tourney in November. It may happen in February. he will keep us advised.
After last week's failed attempt to sing the birthday song to BradL, we tried it again and sounded much better.
We only had 13 members to sample the chicken pot pie, bright corn, rolls, salad and brownie bites.
SAA Patti asked three music trivia Q's. We got 'em all right!
Last in included BradL, TylerL and LeonardB.
There are now 13 cards left after LoriP and MarkA failed to find the joker. LeonardB received the scratchie.

If you’re having Thanksgiving dinner in the town of Hatch, New Mexico, you’ll very likely find the town’s namesake chiles mixed into traditional dishes. This patch of the Rio Grande river valley is known for growing and harvesting the spicy-sweet peppers, which are often fire-roasted and added to everything from enchiladas to stews. Hatch chiles are an essential part of New Mexico food culture and are enjoyed all year-round — even McDonald’s in New Mexico has incorporated it into their cheeseburgers. But the chiles have become a particular highlight of Thanksgiving dinners, included in everything from corn puddings to stuffing to mashed potatoes.

RhondaB announced that the Hartford Water Park pavilion was a go, with the WR and Bethalto clubs sharing expenses.
MarkSp took a futile shot at wining the $75 jackpot.
PaulH was recruiting helpers for the Quarter Auction event.
GeorgeM was announced as the program chair for the next WR meeting.
New badges were distributed to EA members.

MY ROTARY JOURNEY: FROM MEMBER TO ROTARIAN

A year ago, I walked into a meeting of the Scottsville Rotary Club with a mission to present the newly opened Victory Hill Dream Center. Little did I know that this meeting would mark the beginning of a life-changing transformation for me.

From the moment I stepped into that Rotary meeting, I knew I had found more than just an audience for my presentation. I had found a Rotary family that welcomed me with open arms, embracing my vision of service and community support.

As a discipleship pastor at Victory Hill church in Scottsville, I’m committed to and passionate about serving our community. Directing and organizing the outreach center, which caters to the needs of the community, is a privilege that fills my heart with purpose.

Since joining Rotary, I’ve been mentored by an amazing group of peers who have taught me the true meaning of Rotary’s motto, Service Above Self. Together with my fellow Rotarians, I’ve had the privilege to jump right into service work, making a tangible impact on the lives of those we serve.

From volunteering alongside my fellow Rotarians to leading the speech contest, I have felt the power of collaboration and unity in action. But beyond the projects and initiatives, what truly touched my heart is the genuine friendship, community support, and family-like bond that Rotary has brought into my life.

Today, I can proudly say that I have transformed from being just a member to becoming a Rotarian. The values of Rotary have become a part of who I am, inspiring me to make a lasting difference.

Rotary has given me not only a platform to serve but also an extended family of like-minded individuals who share a common goal of making our community a better place for all.

Through this short journey, I’ve discovered the true essence of Rotary: a global force for good, united by love, compassion, and unwavering commitment to service. I am honored and humbled to be a part of this extraordinary Rotary family. Together, we are creating a legacy of service and impacting lives in ways we could never have imagined.
