Thanks to everyone who assisted with the Salvation Army bell ringing event this past Saturday, especially to MarkV for coordinating. Lots of fun photos were taken and you can view them in our website album. Our scholarship student dressed as the Grinch was a huge hit according to SandyS, "Bigger bills are better"! Thanks to all the photo bugs for their contributions.
On Thursday Retired Air Force Colonel Dave Boots talked about his military career and what he's up to now. He primarily served as a cargo plane navigator before his retirement in 2009. He now leads a contract group of 15 who provide logistic models for the Air Force transportation command at Scott AFB. In other words, the military tells Dave's group that they want to move X amount of troops, equipment, supplies, etc to a certain destination around the globe. His group then matches military resources (mostly planes) to the task and provide scenarios to make this happen. A lot of moving parts, pun intended. Some very interesting, and complex, stuff.
The Christmas Wonderland event is on Tuesday. If you have agreed to help, be at the Rock Spring Park Grandpa HQ trailer no later than 5:30. Gates open @ 6. Ho, Ho, Ho!!
Our Christmas party is this Thursday at Julia's. Fellowship @ 5:30, dinner and entertainment follow at 6.

RickH shared a recent experience while bell ringing at Wal Mart. A stranger approached him and shared his experience of 40 years ago when he spent a year at a university in Scotland as a Rotary sponsored student. It was an impactful event for this gentleman.
The Slide Right In (SRI) crowd was represented by-GlennB, PaulH, ChrisH, JoeS and JohnP.
SandyS shared some new assessor math where 4=3. Just ask her.
Prez Bill led the singing of the happy birthdaysongfor ChrisH.
Post-nooners included JohnP, CoryG and JoeS
SAA Patti fined everyone who did not assist with the bells. She also collected a $ from those who did not have credible military service.
We had 17 members dining on shredded BBQ pork, bite sized oven taters, rolls, Caesar salad, cup cakes and cake.
The 50-50 rolls after Prez Bill and SherryT failed to find the joker (Sherry did pull a jack). BradP won the scratchie.
Opening duties were covered by ChrisH, SherryT and RodneyD.

Barb Kyro reminded everyone to wear their ugly Christmas sweater to the next meeting for the traditional photo.
PaulG covered for Prez JohnP who was "on assignment".
DaveA fined everyone who did not ring the bell.
JeanK did not find the Queen of Hearts to claim the $437 jackpot. RickH did claim the $122 50-50 pot.

RYLA program sparks career growth, passion for Rotary at Singapore Convention

If you don’t know what to do, try something! The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Young International Managers Training Program seeks to cultivate and develop the leadership skills of young people, as well as provide opportunities for participants to engage in community service and international affairs.
Being one who loves to participate in activities, I signed up for the program without a second thought. I was honored to be selected as the District 3481 RYLA Champion Winner and the delegate to the 2024 Rotary International Convention in Singapore. The selection process included submitting a video introduction and taking part in classroom training.
I traveled to Singapore with our district governor to interact with people from all over the world. At first, I thought Rotary conferences were serious, and that most of the people gathered in Singapore were just doing meetings and workshops. But it was actually very different! The Rotarians greeted us warmly and communicated with us in a friendly manner. Some even wore clothing representative of their countries and exchanged pins to get to know each other.
In addition to enjoying the scenery of Singapore, I was able to listen to many Rotary seminars. The speakers mentioned making a positive impact, being mindful, and having a powerful impact on the world. It made me reflect on how I, as a young person, can use the resources available to me to give back to society.
