LeonardB presented a program about lobbying on Thursday, the good kind, not the type that brings shame to the 4-Way Test. His experience with lobbying goes back to his days as a "commuter" student at Knox College. Most recently, his involvement with elder law allowed him to advocate for laws that helped Illinois' senior citizens. Leonard shared a couple of stories about his lobbying experience with Illinois Senator Sam Vadalabene and the Wood River Township sewer system and the lobbying gallery at the Illinois Statehouse.

Today (8-21) is the day for the Edwardsville Rotary sponsored bike races in downtown E'ville. Racing starts @ 3PM. The Kids Zone is located in the parking lot next to the Wildey Theater. The bands perform across St. Louis St. from the Madco Courthouse.

RhondaB shared info about the Soap Box Festival, Rotary Day at the Ballpark vs the Cubs on October 3rd and the Pints for Polio event on October 24th.
Anyone beside PaulH a bit frustrated with home maintenance programs?
MarkS reported that all things are a go with the Imagination Library program. Additionally, he raised the question "Is there a Chile Supper chair?"
As the college kids go "back to school" we pose the question, "Is a college students thirst for knowledge exceeded by their thirst for hard seltzer?"
It was phone-a-rama on Thursday-there were incoming calls for RodC, GeorgeT,DarrenC and BradP.
LeonardB served as the SAA with a lugmeister assist from Prez Lindsey. The trivia Q's were fashion heavy, much to LoriP's delight. We only missed 1. In fact, Lori was so fast in answering "Chris Noth" it cost her $2.
Opening duties were handled by Prez Lindsey, MarkS and RodneyD.
Post-nooners included GeorgeM, RhondaB and BradP.
The $43 jackpot was snubbed by MarkA and RickH. AllenH got to scratch his itch.

WR Prez ScottL announced that there would be three fund raisers held before June of 2012. JohnP was in charge of the mouse races. There would also be a trivia night and a golf tournament.
Assistant District Governor LeonardB was visiting the EA club meeting and was tasked with installing new member Jeny Lewis.
The WR club welcomed new member AlanaY.
Three scholarship students visited the EA meeting and collected $9,800 in scholarship awards.
SteveD was elected to a three year WR board term.
AllenH led the pledge at the EA meeting while RhondaB was off on vacay.
Rotarian-on-leave Col. MikeK paid a visit to the WR meeting.
EA Prez DaveM was looking for a Christmas party chairperson.
JohnP served as the /WR program chair.
RodC and PaulH failed to pull the joker and claim the $128 50-50 jackpot at the EA meeting.

ROTARY'S FUTURE

To grow is a natural phenomenon for everything. Growth is the only evidence of life. As Harvey Firestone, the American businessman who founded the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, said, “The growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership.”
It is just as true for Rotary. For the last 20 years we had been at 1.2 million members and I think it is time that we add members and grow more. This growth to 1.3 million in 12 months may sound audacious but it is absolutely possible if we work on Each One, Bring One.
To me the gift of membership to Rotary has been an extraordinary gift and I thank my proposer Chittaranjan Choudhury for this most valuable life-changing gift. Membership to Rotary has meant opening myriad opportunities for me. The opportunities to make friends, opportunities of leadership, opportunities of service, and opportunities of giving. It has influenced my life so much that service has become a way of life for me and my guiding mantra has become “Service is the rent I pay for the space I occupy on this Earth.”
Having realized how valuable this gift is, I had always wanted to share this gift with others over 36 years as a Rotarian having bought more than 50 members into different clubs of Rotary. The IRS released the 2019 migration data for adjusted gross income (AGI) that showed a departure in the billions of dollars of taxable income from New York, California, and Illinois (a total of $20 billion). These three states experienced the most outflow of AGI in 2019, while Florida, Texas, and Arizona gained the most AGI.
38% of kids aged 6 to 12 played team sports on a regular basis in 2018, down from 45% in 2008-Sports & Fitness Industry Association.
