Community Hope Center Executive Director Paul Militzer was our program presenter on Thursday. He has served in that capacity for the past nine years. CHC was founded in 1988 by Chrystal Davis and serves the Riverbend area in a variety of ways. It's primarily a food pantry that uses the client choice food model. They also provide clothing, limited medical care and life coaching. A free hot lunch program is open to everyone on weekdays (except Thursday). In 2022 6,147 families were served by the CHC staff and volunteers. The agency needs 30-35 volunteers each day to serve its clients. New volunteers are always welcome, and needed. Paul is currently looking for a replacement building with about 25,000 square feet of space, near a MCT bus line. Got someplace in mind? Let him know (618.558.5618). MarkS reported (via LoriP) that two business were tied forBusiness of the Year voting, and several others were close in the vote count. If you have not yet cast your ballot, see Mark's recent email that contained the nominees. Vote today, do it now!

PaulH shared of few interesting tidbits about the Growth Association's not-to-recent history.
RodneyD was covering for Prez Robin and opened the meeting with a solid clang of the bell.

ScottL was last in the house @ 12:17. Preceding him were MikeK, TylerL and LeonardB.
17 members tried to figure out how to create their personal s'more. We don't know if anyone waved their speared marshmallow over the Sterno flame. Our entree was pulled pork, with chips and hail Caesar salad.
.SAA LeonardB recruited RodneyD as his money changer. We had a mini-civics test about Republican presidential candidates. If you had not voted for a Business of the Year nominee, pay a $.
LeonardB and RickH pulled dud cards from the deck. DaveA took home the scratch-off.

New Zealander AJ Hackett opened the world’s first commercial bungy jump on Kawarau Bridge in Queenstown, New Zealand. The adventure sport took off in popularity and put Queenstown — located on New Zealand’s South Island — on the map as an adrenaline junky capital. But bungy jumping isn’t the only adventure Queenstown is famous for today: Thrill-seekers come from all over the world to ski, snowboard, mountain bike, sky dive, paraglide, take a high-speed ride in a jet boat, among other hair-raising pursuits.

MarkSp was assigned the task of having a 4-Way Test "conversation" with ChrisH after he was caught dissing against WendellR's and his table mates.
Congrats were offered to PatA for the upcoming Alton Little Theater production of his play School Secrets.
LoriP was pushing Baseball Mania tix.
Happy Fines were paid by DaveA and SteveD and collected by acting SAA TommieM.
AllenH introduced his new minister RodneyD, recently of Grand Prairie, TX.
MikeK was searching for a June 17th program.
RhondaB arrived @ 12:24, right after the bell was rung.
JohnP tickled the ivories playing When the (let's Go) Blues Go Marching In.
MarkV's birthday was celebrated by the EA members.
ScottL provided the WR invocation.
LoriP won the rather meager $38 jackpot.

Why we support Celebrate Community week

I have been a Lion and Rotarian for over 13 years and appreciate the opportunity to be a part of both international service organizations while serving with outstanding community leaders, volunteers, anAriald partnerships who are the heart and soul of successful, productive, and healthy communities in which to live and thrive together as one.
Celebrate Community week encourages members of local Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis, and Optimist clubs to work together on collaborative service projects and showcase the value of service in our communities.
A few years ago, we were visited by our district governor, Sandy Matsui, who shared with us an inspiring message from that year’s Rotary International president. Part one of the message was a call to energize and motivate clubs via their leadership to increase membership by three members per year. The second part asked Rotary clubs to partner with other international organizations such as Lions and Kiwanis and to develop partnerships that support youth leadership programs.
