NEWS, NOTES & NONSENSE
SHERRY SPORTS HER THEME BANNER
Brad L. was the program coordinator. His guest was his long time Wood River friend Kyle Anderson. Kyle is now the Regional Manager for Member Outreach for the Illinois Association of Realtors. He spoke about some of the political issues that face everyone associated with real estate. (That would be you and me.) The video has been posted.
18 members were in the house (including Chris, our newest inductee). Early arrivals included Pat, Allen and Lori. Among the last to file in were Fred and Paul. Rhonda never did make it.
A well rested Lori talked about her 3 day cruise to Gilligan's Island where she met the Captain and Mary Ann.
The meal featured meatloaf, g-beans, mashed taters/gravy,salad, apple pie and Roger's bread pudding. Allen offered this bit of sage advice "don't let your meat loaf".
Wendell is off racing somewhere in the Caribbean.
Sherry was departing immediately after the meeting for her PETS (president elect training seminar) training. She was also spotted sporting her Rotary theme banner.
Did you notice in the district newsletter that our club's January meeting attendance was #2 in the district? We were at 85%. Thanks to all who make a commitment to attend each week. We can only hope that our "missing Mark's" are working hard at securing make-up's while sunning in Florida. As for Dick, he seems to have fallen off the edge, somewhere near Sebring.
Speaking of make-ups, Rick presented two. Venice-Nokomis and Hollywood were his Florida clubs of choice. Meeting charges were $18 and $15 respectively. The Venice-Nokomis meal was excellent, but he failed to win the $1300 50-50 jackpot.
How did Joe get to the meeting?
Opening duties were provided by Rick, Lori and Dave.
Prez Roger reported that there will not be a Harlem Ambassadors basketball fundraiser.
Our guest speaker shared his approach to soliciting donations. Feed everyone a great meal and make the pitch before serving dessert. he also mentioned that his organization may be able to provide some support for the Wann Disaster (link here for more info http://bit.ly/1LESm92 ) historic marker.
Speaking of Wann, the club will be assisting the East Alton History Committee with the historic marker. The cost will be around $2200.
Do you remember driver's ed instructor Bob Knight?
Lori left the BaseballMania tickets at the office. Don't worry, there's plenty of time to sell.
Bill was MIA so Roger took over and solicited Darren "I'm packing heat" to be the bag guy. Lori had some good news and Dave made a shameless plug. Sherry provided the fine of the day suggestion and a very late announcement. We celebrated Dave's birthday.
Our guest speaker kept drawing his and Brad L's 50-50 tickets. when the dust settled Brad L and Allen had a chance at the $112 jackpot. Kyle settled for the scratch-off.
That's all from here. Have a fine and dry weekend.

The program was presented by Jack Helmkamp who talked about the recent acquisition of Illinois State Bank by Magna Bank.
We were still seeking suggestions for a special event to commemorate our 25th anniversary.
Wendell won the 50-50.
Latecomers and those not sporting a Rotary pin were docked $1 per transgression
The next board meeting would be April 2nd at Moonlight.

SMILE
Like a jar of jalapeno peppers, what you do today may be a burning issue tomorrow.
We could all take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.
Of course I talk to myself; sometimes I need expert advice.

2016-17 ROTARY THEME ANNOUNCED
Rotary’s founder, Paul Harris, believed that serving humanity is “the most worthwhile thing a person can do,” RI President-elect John F. Germ said, and that being a part of Rotary is a “great opportunity” to make that happen.
Germ unveiled the 2016-17 presidential theme, Rotary Serving Humanity, to incoming district governors on 18 January at the International Assembly in San Diego, California, USA.
“I believe everyone recognizes the opportunity to serve Rotary for what it truly is: not a small opportunity, but a great one; an opportunity of a lifetime to change the world for the better, forever through Rotary’s service to humanity,” said Germ.
Rotary members around the globe are serving humanity by providing clean water to underdeveloped communities, promoting peace in conflict areas, and strengthening communities through basic education and literacy. But none more important than our work to eradicate polio worldwide, he said. To continue reading link herehttp://bit.ly/1OFbUYZ
