NEWS, NOTES & NONSENSE
OUR BOARD SEZ SO LONG TO THE PREZ
Look for the next BANNER on July 14th. Have a great Independence Day!
Dick introduced program presenter Erin Bickle. She is the Executive Director of Refuge, a MadCo agency serving children who are victims of violence, neglect and abuse. The video has been posted. While we are on that topic...after two years of podcasting and eight years of video, it's time to put the camera back on the shelf and move forward. Thanks to all who listened/viewed the recordings over the years.
Early arrivals included Brad2, Dick, Allen and Pat. Post-nooners were Brad1, Joe, Dave and Nate.
22 members dined on fried chicken, Rotary g-beans, corn, seasoned taters, mac 'n cheese, salad and red cake.
"Fireman" Bill came to the rescue and moved the chicken away from the Sterno flame from hell.
Mark3 suggested that Bill's shorts exposed legs that would be rejected by KFC.
Bill opened his final noon confab by blasting the bell and knocking the cog for a loop.
Are you dealing with rabbits in your garden? Sandy, Sherry and Wendell will help you cope with the little nibblers.
One wag suggested that the reason Dick brought his wife was due to confusion about when the Installation Dinner was scheduled. Remember, no noon meeting next week.
If you plan to attend the dinner, and have not registered on-line or via the hard copy sign-up sheet circulating Thursday, respond promptly to the email from Lori (if you have not received it yet, you will soon.
Whatever you do, stay away from Wendell's first tomato of the season.
Paul was the last patient his dentist will ever treat. (Insert punch line here).
Lori reports that she has received payment for 82 of 300 paper Mania tickets and 27 e-tickets. Net to date is $625. She still has two ticket packet left, 15 tickets per.
SAA Queenie was MIA. Chris2 covered for her and recruited Paul as the $$ collector. Mark3 and Andrew made announcements. Not here last week, pay a $. Wearing shorts, pay a $. Trivia topics included runners, boxers, golf and WWE. All Q's were answered correctly.
Bill told us that serving as Prez is a snap, as long as Lori is there with her safety net. We agree.
Visitors included semi-regular Andrew and Carole Thompson. Good to see them both.
$31 50-50 opportunities were squandered by Nate and Lori. Joe's scratch-off was equally unsuccessful.
Opening duties were performed by Mark3, Sandy and Dave
That's all from here, have a fine and dry weekend.

DATELINE:RI
How our club attracts and retains alumni as members
By Mandy Warfield, president, and Emma Satzger, membership coordinator, Rotary Club of Dupont Circle, Washington D.C., USA
The Rotary Club of Dupont Circle was started six years ago by a group of Rotary alumni, and since then, the club has grown to include many other facets of the community, including individuals who have not had any previous experience with Rotary.
Over the last few years, our club has continued to attract and retain alumni members. Sometimes RI finds the alumni and introduces them to our club, and sometimes the alumni find us. We are lucky to have naturally open and social members, and everyone makes a concerted effort to make any visitor feel welcome. One of our Rotary alumni members, Molly, recounts, “When I started attending meetings, no one treated me like a joke or a second-tier Rotarian because I was so young. Fellow members treated me as an equal who had ideas and skills to contribute to the club.”
Our club meets at a neighborhood bar and we meet in the evening. This rather informal environment also allows us to keep dues at a minimum, which is often a swaying factor for younger members. Because we are a small club, we’ve adopted an “all hands on deck” approach in order to execute on our club’s goals; new members frequently become active members of our committees, and even volunteer to step up into the committee chair role. Their fresh insights and perspectives have helped our club grow and have shaped our club over time. To continue reading, link herehttps://tinyurl.com/y7gnzsk3
