SHERRY TAKES THE GAVEL ISSUE
July 2, 2016
NEWS, NOTES & NONSENSE
PAUL RECEIVES HIS PHF PIN FROM ROGER
37 members and guests joined Roger as he turned over the gavel to Sherry.(Meeting photos have been posted, please don't tell Sherry)
Sherry arrived very early with her entourage, Roger arrived (much) later with Bev.
Allen never did arrive. It seems that he preferred to watch the Cards lose their 7th home game in a row. Justice prevailed!
Congrats to Rhonda on her recent nups. She had high praise for Rev Bill on his condensed scripture readings.
Dick provided the invocation.
We will be missing our Mark's next week. Mark 1 is off to explore the Colorado River via the Grand Canyon and Mark 3 is off to Florida via Kentucky.
Joe is seriously considering starting a daycare service.
Rhonda reported that the possible grant for the Wann memorial was not approved. Sell more Mania tix!
Roger thanked Lori for taking care of all the meeting details. We also thank her!
Rhonda presented the Paul Harris Fellow award to Paul (Hoover). He is now an official plus one PHF. FYI, Rhonda does understand that it's Paul Harris not Hello.
Roger summed up his year by describing it as stable.
Rod wants to know if all the past presidents remember their theme?
After Roger presented Paul his 35 year club service award, Paul presented awards to Roger,Mark 3,Cory,Rick and Wendell.
Our Business of the Year award was presented to Richard Tite and the Airliner Bar and Grill. (Apparently Sherry had not told him.)
Sherry took the podium from Roger and explained how this year's Rotary theme "Rotary Serving Humanity" melds well with the idea of "service above self" and "one profits most who serves the best".
Sherry is really looking forward to hosting our student from Chile (so are we). She has also banned the club photographer from taking any candid shots of her. (We hope that Darren doesn't need to get involved!)
That's all from here. Have a fine and dry holiday weekend. (The dry part is seriously in doubt.)

GSE TEAM AND COLUMBIAN HOSTS
THE DAY ROTARY SAVED MY EXCHANGE
By Ian W. Geddes, past governor of District 1020 (Scotland)
I have many Rotary stories to tell but this one happened in Colombia. I was chosen by my district to lead a Group Study Exchange team to Bogota. As a Spanish teacher in Scotland my dream had long been to travel to South America. Having been chosen as leader and then having negotiated a sabbatical from my school, my team and I finally set off for Colombia.
One week into the trip, the day after we had visited the fabled El Dorado, I fell ill. At first I thought it was just altitude sickness as we traveled along the Andes at 11,000 feet above sea-level. But no, it turned out to be appendicitis.
As the surgeon went off to prepare for the operation, I broke down completely. End of dream – three to four weeks convalescence instead of exploring Colombia. Just then the wife of the district governor walked in and said she would arrange to get me back to Bogota – some four hours away – where I would get keyhole (minimally invasive) surgery and be back on my feet in days instead of weeks.
