     PAUL UPSELLS OUR NEXT ROTARIAN
  • Pastor Andrew was drafted by Allen to spend a few minutes talking about the Dead Sea Scrolls. Andrew believes that the discovery of the Scrolls in 1947 went a long way to quieting the skeptics who questioned the accuracy of the bible.
  • It was nice to have Pat and Ty back in the house. Pat has been taking care of his wife while she was recovering from pneumonia. Ty has recently changed positions with Chestnut.
  • The sign-up sheet for the basketball tournament on February 2nd is now circulating. Shifts are 7:30-12:30 or noon-close. Teams are still needed. Chris is looking for 5th and 6th grade girls and boys squads. There's a $50 entry fee.
  • Disco Bingo is scheduled for March 23rd. You recently received an email that had an event flyer attached. Please print and post and/or share via your social media stream. Only 300 tickets will be sold.
  • Julia's is still in deconstruction mode. A related kitchen snafu forced us to have a pizza party for lunch. Pies were accompanied by garlic bread, salad, colorful cupcakes and cookies.
  • The first of 20 members to arrive were Allen, Pat, Virgil and Bill. Randy, Patty, ChrisH and Paul were in the house before the pizza ran out.
  • After the meeting on January 31st we will head to the new ice cream shop for tasty treats. Wendell wants to know if anyone else remembers the Quality Dairy in East Alton?
  • In addition to Andrew, our other guests included potential member Alex and Tommie from Wood River. Alex is on the staff of the Growth Association.
  • Are you really ready for a song and dance routine from Randy and ChrisL? Yea, I thought so...
  • Not with us on Thursday: MarkA, Rhonda, Rod, Matt, Erin, DaveS, Sandy, MarkS, Dick, Sherry, MarkV and Jamie.
  • SAA Queenie drafted Randy to collect the $$ and collect he did! Not here last week? Pay a $. Did your phone ring during the meeting? Pay a $. Did you not bring a guest? Pay a $. How about these trivia topics-Cocker Spaniels, answering machines and the film Full Metal Jacket. We got 1 out of 3.
  • ChrisL was nominated to serve as our Prez during the 2020-21 Rotary year. He was elected by acclimation. Thanks for stepping up! For reasons hard to fathom, ChrisH and Bill could't be convinced to give it a go a second time.
  • Opening duties were performed by ChrisH, Bill and Dave. Considering we had neither a U.S. flag or the 4-way banner, we did a pretty good job.
  • The $19 50-50 jackpot was unclaimed by Lori and BradP. Did Randy win anything with the scratch-off?
  • That's all from here, have a fine and dry weekend. (Not going to happen) Ciao!

More than 26% of mortgage borrowers who use FHA insured loans got assistance from a relative to make the down payment in the 12 months through September 2018, up from about 22% in 2011. The credit score of the average borrower declined to 670, the lowest level since 2008-Federal Housing Administration

Origins:slipshod-The first slipshod people were men in the 16th century who walked the streets in slipshoes, a kind of loose slipper. Such men, slopping along shod in their slipshoes, were considered uncouth by respectable people, who soon coined the word slipshod for them, slipshod ultimately applying to anything done in a sloppy way.

What is the most visited paid monument in the world?
La Sagrada Familia
Stonehenge
Colosseum
Eiffel Tower

If you can’t imagine a world without the Eiffel Tower, you’re not alone. Every year, over 7 million people climb to the top of the iconic monument to take in the views of the City of Love. And all those people, come at a price. $544 billion worth to be exact. That’s how much the tower is worth to the French economy, taking up almost a fifth of the country’s GDP. Coming in a not-so-close second, Rome’s Colosseum is still worth a whopping $114 billion.

ROTARACT CLUB CREATES COMMUNITY

By Evelyn Aaron, Communication Director, Rotaract Club of Canal Fulton, Ohio, USA
If you ask any one of the members of the Canal Fulton Rotary Club why they joined, they will tell you it’s the sense of community that binds us all together. Many of us have spent significant portions of our lives in the greater Canal Fulton area, and we want to provide our children and our town with the same helping hands that we have been offered our entire lives.
Canal Fulton’s Rotary Club is tirelessly active in our community. The annual Mother of All Races event, held on Mother’s Day weekend, is a huge hit. And they are currently one of the driving forces behind our town’s forthcoming YMCA (just to name a few projects). In the last two years, the Interact Club they sponsor at Northwest High School has grown from 25 to over 60 student members, taking on countless projects every year. While these are strong clubs and major forces in our community, there was a gap to be filled. There was no Rotary-sponsored club for young adults to stay active in the community.
Our Rotaract Club quickly grew from the one person who started the group to the five people she contacted and met with in just days, to the 15 friends that came to our first meeting. That base of people has encouraged new people to join as members or simply take part in our service projects. To continue reading link here https://bit.ly/2TEPBd9
