PREZ BILL GETS HIS BIRTHDAY WISH

On Thursday Jamie Heilman joined us to talk about something none of us want to hear about, our eventual death. She is associated with the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Homes. Jamie made two primary points that we should all consider. Prefunding your own funeral arrangements can save you and/or your survivors significant dollars when you do pass. The cost of a full burial in our are now costs about $15,000. It can be paid upfront or over 3, 5 or 10 years. Among the useful handouts that Jamie gave us was a planning guide that would provide basic information about your estate to your survivors. Do your family a favor, make plans today.

Birthday wishes go out to Prez Bill on the 15th.
JoeS told everyone that golfers are notorious slow to prepay for a tournament. That being noted, if you know of a team that plans to play let Joe know ASAP so he can reserve the correct number of tee times and order the right amount of grub. He also encouraged everyone to get busy encouraging your golfing/duffer friends to get a team(s) together and recruit sponsors. The end of October is not that far off.
Here are the details about our upcoming club foundation golf scramble on October 25th. Registration starts @ 11 with a shotgun start @ noon. A foursome will cost $400 and include a BBQ lunch and steak dinner. There are five sponsorship levels available from $100 to $1000. He then distributed flyers and encouraged everyone to share them with the golfers you know, friends, family and social media. It's going to be a fun day on a beautiful late October Friday. All proceeds will be used for community enhancement with a goal of making a $15,000 contribution every other year. Make checks payable to our legal name East Alton Rotary Club Foundation. All checks need to go through JoeS so that all sponsorships and teams are correctly recognized. Thanks in advance for your support.

SAA Patti fined everyone who did not assist at the soapbox race and/or had not introduced themselves to potential member Nancy.
We had 16 members dining on spicy Italian Beef, whipped taters, corn, rolls, salad and red cookies
Our Trivia Night is February 8th @ Julia's.
The 50-50 bucket returned. Alas, RickH and JohnP failed to locate the joker and claim the $229 jackpot. GeorgeM won the scratch-off.

PatA talked about his new play School Secrets with fellow WR members. JohnP made a presentation at the EA meeting about the recently launched $100 for our 100th campaign. ErinP was an enthusiastic supporter.
We found out that JoeS was a recent inductee to the EAWR Hall of Fame and that BradP's daughter Laura was inducted a couple of years prior.
DonnaK was encouraging sales for the Rotary Cash Raffle. MarkSp was pushing sales for the upcoming Chili Supper.
JohnP was spied trying to convince VirgilM to join a club closer to his home.
RHS students Taylor Campbell and Benjamin Walleck broke bread with the WR members.
Birthday greetings went out to BillP.
The first Color Run raised $3,500 which was donated to the WR Public Library.
SherryT did not like the rolls offered on the buffet.
TommieM visited the EA meeting.
JeanK announced that she is working with the EA club to create an Art Auction-Beer and Wine testing event.
LoriP reminded everyone about the deadline to sign-up for the cookout.
AlanaY was coordinating the Halloween Parade entry.
AllenH and RickH had no luck claiming the 50-50 jackpot.
MikeK was busy organizing a bicycle ride honoring the 100th anniversary of EAWR High School.

I gravitate naturally to statistics despite the negative feelings some people have about them. I think that information is the fuel that our world runs on and without it our systems will sputter, stall, and shut down. That is because statistics are significant in decision-making.
When I joined the Rotary Club of Nairobi East, Kenya, 24 years ago, I was told that good Rotarians were defined by the regularity of their attendance, the frequency of their gifts to The Rotary Foundation, and most importantly by their ability to introduce new members to the club.
In my quest to be a valuable member, I turned to statistics as a way to demonstrate the credibility of Rotary to family, friends, and neighborhood skeptics. I learned all the important stats by heart and would spit them out at the slightest provocation.
