NEWS, NOTES & NONSENSE
ROGER PROMOTES JOE
Pat solicited Colonel Dave's help with procuring a program. He asked Dave Birk to speak about the Illinois concealed carry law and the training required to receive a permit. The video is posted.
This will be the last Banner until sometime in March. Enjoy the memories and talk amongst yourselves, but quietly.
For the second week in a row we had 19 members in the house. We assembled in Julia's "front room". Allen, Dave (and Dave) and Brad L (with dad) represented the early arrivals. Brad P and Paul were the last to enter the kingdom. Chris, Mark 2 and Fred didn't beat them by much.
Roger seemed to be a bit disoriented with the room arrangement. he recovered nicely, until he tried to present Randy with his new badge for the second week in a row.
Pat won his tussle with a chair.
Opening duties were provided by Fred, Bill and Colonel Dave. By the way, sans the 4-way test banner, we were a bit spotty in our recitation.
Mom did give good advice.
Wendell observed that the room change forced people to change their normal seating arrangement. That's a good thing.
Brad L and Fred each brought a guest. We had no Rotarian visitors.
Wendell is ready to head for the boat races in St. Martin in early March.
Joe received his "upgraded" badge from Roger. He also received 2 colored pin backers for recruiting Randy and Darren.
Can anyone help Roger find his lost computer?
Wendell seemed to enjoy his job as the "cake police". Perhaps it was more like cake envy.
Chicken fingers were accompanied by mac-n-cheese, baked taters, salad, and red cake.
As you read this, try to work up a bit of sympathy for Joe and Paul as they search the rough for their lost golf balls on some course near Orlando.
Allen will soon be "blessed" with a new work space roof.
Dave was sporting a nice looking eagle tie.
Bill and Sandy worked the room hard, but their ROI was spotty. We celebrated Cory's 10th anniversary as a member. (How is it that he has served 12 years as club treasurer?) Roger had a shameless plug. We celebrated Powerball and found out a bit about Rotary founder Paul Harris. The correct answers included Miami Dolphins, The Supremes, gold, 21% and Florida.
Fred and Paul tok a shot at the joker. Roger had to explain to Paul the difference between the joker and a jack. The pot rolls. Lori had similar luck with the scratch off.
Roger gaveled the meeting closed at 1:05.
That's all from here. Have a fine and dry weekend.

There are now two basketball tournament sign-up sheets making the rounds. One is for concession donations, the other is for workers. You may also use the web portal to put your name on the worker list . There are still several slots in need of your name. Please take a look at the online version and confirm your times. Joe told us that there are 14 teams in the tournament. There will be a single game played at 4PM, witch should expedite clean up. Chris is still in search of concession donations. Virgil guarantees great weather for the event.
Last week Roger sent everyone an email with a pdf file containing information about the basketball fundraiser. He is now attempting to determine if the Wood River club is interested in co-sponsoring the event.

Rotary Scholar urges alumni to stay connected
By Kathleen Plaza, Rotary Scholar
I was born and raised in a rural barrio (neighborhood) in Mindanao, Philippines. I moved to Guam when I was about 18 years old. I became a member of the Rotaract Club of the Marianas in Guam when I was completing my undergrad degree in biology, and served as secretary in 2011-12 and as youth services director in 2012-13.
I moved to Hawaii in August 2015, and with a Rotary Scholarship funded by a global grant, began taking classes in public health, focused on disease prevention and treatment. I will finish my program in May 2017. To continue reading, link herehttp://bit.ly/1OTWraU
