MIX 'N MINGLE
Thursday's "speed date" meeting with Wood River club members had 17 East Alton members co-mingling with 10 of Wood River's finest Rotarians (Dave, Leonard, Lindsey, Jean, Robin, Mike, Cheryl, George I, George II and Tommie) in Julia's front room. The vibe was excellent, and it felt like a family reunion. Let's get this show on the road!
The regular program schedule has resumed. If you are unable to attend your scheduled presentation meeting let Prez Chris know so he can find a replacement presenter. Remember, your speaker can attend via Zoom if that is their preference.
Our program presenter was Ameren Illinois representative Misty McLeish. She joined us via Zoom to tell us about the residential and commercial energy saving opportunities sponsored by Ameren. Take a look at your Ameren bill and find the energy efficiency rider line item. We all pay a monthly fee to support these programs, why not take advantage of them? The average 1,500 sq ft home spends about $2,000 on energy each year. These two web sites have almost all the information you will need to get started- http://www.ameren>illinoisSavings.com. and http://www.EnergyStar.gov and save $$.
The Eastgate Halloween event last Saturday was a huge success. Lots of kids and parents were exposed to Rotary and all things Eastgate. Thanks to all who assisted. Blue Ice Kyle promises and even bigger event next year.
Did you know that Wood River's Tommie hails from Georgia?
Lunch featured baked chicken, Au Gratin taters, mixed veggies, salad, rolls pie and cake.
Congrats to Patty on her seven years as a Rotarian!
It was nice to have Rodney back in the house.
The Turkey Fund is now @ $252. All $$ collected will be given to Operation Blessing to use for Thanksgiving food purchases. If you want to donate via check, make it payable to Operation Blessing. If you prefer to donate via PayPal of Venmo, Rick will accept payment and convert it to cash for the cause. Find him via phone 618.792.0256 or @john-hooks-7 on Venmo or @JrTheChief on PayPal.
The golfers were determined to make their 1:24 tee time @ Spencer, move away from the door!
Early arrivals included Tommie, Allen, Dick and Rod. It looked like everyone was being punctual to impress the Wood River members, Paul was the only post-nooner. Lori joined us via Zoom.
Wendell was flashing back to Cecil Neunaber with the takeaway request.
Our bring a vet program will be at our meeting this Thursday. Let Lori know right now if you are bringing someone.
Please keep Pat's wife in your prayers.
First week Football Mania winners included ChrisH, Sherry and Lori. Is it just me or does it seem that Chris and Lori win way more than anyone else??
Wendell appreciated the more comfortable chairs in the front room.
According to one wag SAA Sherry was off 'fixing" another election. Tlme constrains forced us to skip fines and trivia. Mike Kelly told us about the Riverbend Family Ministries fund raising effort this weekend.
Opening duties were handled by Allen, ChrisH and Bill. Our Prez was impressed that Chris knew the 4-way by heart.
BradL introduced his guest (Your editor failed to write down his name and title).
Don't say we are not generous to our visitors. We let Tommie win the $57 jackpot and also the scratch-off. By the way, she highly recommends the pig skins from JJ's.
Have a fine and dry weekend, stay safe. Ciao!

South America
The Don Juan Pond, located in Antarctica, is the saltiest body of water in the world. It's located in the lowest part of the Upper Wright Valley and has a salinity of higher than 40 percent. For comparison, the Dead Sea's salinity is about 34 percent, making the Don Juan Pond saltier than even what’s arguably the world's most popular salty body of water.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENT FOCUS OF WORLD POLIO DAY
Rotary’s 2020 World Polio Day Online Global Update program on 24 October hails this year’s historic achievement in polio eradication: Africa being declared free of the wild poliovirus.
Paralympic medalist and TV presenter Ade Adepitan, who co-hosts this year’s program, says that the eradication of polio in Africa was personal for him. “Since I was born in Nigeria, this achievement is close to my heart,” says Adepitan, a polio survivor who contracted the disease as a child. “I’ve been waiting for this day since I was young.”
He notes that, just a decade ago, three-quarters of all of the world’s polio cases caused by the wild virus were contracted in Africa. Now, more than a billion Africans are safe from the disease. “But we’re not done,” Adepitan cautions. “We’re in pursuit of an even greater triumph — a world without polio. And I can’t wait.”
Rotary Foundation Trustee Geeta Manek, who co-hosts the program with Adepitan, says that World Polio Day is an opportunity for Rotary members to be motivated to “continue this fight.”
She adds, “Rotarians around the world are working tirelessly to support the global effort to end polio.” to continue reading, link herehttps://bit.ly/3mTvsyU
