LindseyH shared what's going on at the Wood River Library, including the summer reading program called "Reading Colors Your World" and the Tie Dye event happening today from 10-2. There's also a pie throwing event in the future.
We had 18 members at Julia's for Thursday's meeting.
FYI-Weekly meeting will no longer be streamed via Zoom. (Apologies if you tried to Zoom in on Thursday, internet access was not available.) A hearty thanks to BradP for managing our Zoom meetings during the past several months.
Happy Rotary anniversaries to LeonardB on July 1st -25 years, PatB on July 1st-42 years and PattiA on July 2nd-22 years.
Early arrivals included AllenH, LoriP and BradL.

MikeK has graciously offered the use of his Cracker Factory penthouse for all of us (and our partners) to view the 3rd of July Alton fireworks show. PattiA told everyone that when Mike did this a few years back as a fundraiser it was her best 4th of July EVER! MarkS offered a standing-O to Mike for his offer.
BillP pinch hit for Prez Chris and used the gavel to hammer the bell more than once.
LindseyH offered that she was ready to take her turn at ringing the bell with vigor.
Birthday greeting go out to AlexS-June 21st, GeorgeM-June 23rd and SandyS and LeonardB -July2nd.
BillP presented a $400 check to Treasurer George for our help with the Winter Wonderland event last year. We have a date to do it again this December.
RhondaB reported that she and MarkS had a meeting with a Madison County Transit rep about the Bike Assist program. Talks continue.
Sauced brisket was our entree on Thursday. Super cheezy taters, rolls, salad and cake were also on the buffet.
We will be assisting the Heavenly Peace project the afternoon of August 5th making beds for kids. Put it on your calendar.
SAA Sherry went 2 for 4 with the trivia Q's. The fine du jour was all about Father's Day.
Opening duties were performed by LindseyH, JohnP and BillP.
MikeK circulated a flyer about an upcoming bike event on August 21st called Bike for Heroes benefiting the Joshua Chamberlain Society benefiting wounded Soldiers and Marines in the bi-state area. More info here http://chanberlainsociety.org/events
Among the last to arrive were JohnP, PattiA, LindseyH and MikeK.
The first two 50-50 numbers drawn by JohnP belonged to TyB. the second won was a winner! TY won the $209 jackpot. Congrats! He, in turn, returned $60 to our treasury. Nice. LoriP had the scratch-off.

When you think Colorado, you probably picture towering, snow-covered mountain peaks, not looming sand dunes. However, this state is home to the Great Sand Dunes, a national park and nature preserve that feature the tallest dunes in North America. These dunes reach up to 750 feet (229 m) tall, and cover an area of about 30 square miles.

The WR Installation of Officers Banquet would be held @ Belk Park on the 27th.
ChrisH introduced the EA program presenter, Nicolette Watson, Case Manager of the the Madison County Veteran Treatment Court.
The 2013-14 WR slate of officers included VP AlanaY, Secretary JimH, Treasurer GeorgeM, SAA JeanK and DonnaK as secretary in training. GeorgeT would serve as assistant secretary-Treasurer.
MarkS and CoryG provided opening duties @ the EA meeting.
The WR Board of Directors approved a $500 donation for the Back to School Bash.
Lunch at the EA meeting found mostly meatless spaghetti and Rotary g-beans. MarkA was disappointed that there was no Kraft shake cheese available.
WR Club Assemblies would be held on the same Mondays as meeting of the Board of Directors.
Birthday greetings were offered to MarkA and MarkV at the EA meeting.
SteveD served as the WR meeting greeter.
Fashion statements were being made by RodC-vest, DaveM-tie and LoriP-dress.
MarkS posed a philosophical question, "What is a lawnmower but a blade?"
Bonus factoid-TommieM won a $993 jackpot in March of 2016.

Volunteers work to keep the community of Kingston, Ontario, healthy and safe
Rotary and Rotaract members in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, have been volunteering at the region’s largest COVID-19 vaccination center, helping to facilitate the process of immunizing hundreds of people per day.
Shortly after COVID-19 vaccines became available to the province in March, Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox & Addington (KFL&A) Public Health converted a hockey rink in the INVISTA Centre into a vaccination site. Local health workers have been vaccinating about 300 people a day and are preparing to inoculate up to 2,000 a day when more vaccine become available.
Appointments were initially open to medical workers, people who are at least 80 years old, and residents of nursing or retirement homes. But appointments will expand to people in other demographic groups when the supply increases.
Mike Moore, a member of the Rotary Club of Kingston-Frontenac, was watching news coverage of mass COVID-19 vaccination sites in the U.S. when he realized local Rotary clubs could be of use at the site near them.
"It’s directing traffic or directing people or assisting in any non-technical way,” says Moore. “This is what we do — we volunteer for stuff like this all the time. Our public health authorities aren’t usually dealing with a pandemic, and I knew they would need help.”
Moore contacted KFL&A Public Health officials to offer two volunteers for each of the three, three-hour shifts every day. The 42 total volunteers are from the four Rotary clubs and two Rotaract clubs in the greater Kingston area, and some are friends of Rotary.
