I'VE GOT THE Q's, WHO HAS THE A's?
BradL spent a few minutes sharing his family's recent experience with Covid-19. Both he and his wife tested positive after attending a wedding/reception in early September. Both of them spent several days managing the symptoms, just about everything but fever. Fatigue lingered. It's a very serious illness, especially for those with underlying conditions and older folks. He recommends the CDC website for informed information.
The regular program schedule resumes next week. If you are unable to attend your scheduled presentation meeting let Prez Chris know so he can find a replacement presenter. Remember, your speaker can attend via Zoom if that is their preference.
MarkS reported that the only significant unresolved merger issue is the treatment of our foundation account. Our merger committee will meet soon with our foundation committee to work out a proposal. Things are on track to merge no earlier than January 1st.
Bill covered for Rhonda and told us about the Pints for Polio Rotary promotion on World Polio Day, October 24th. Several area clubs have partnered with MadCo establishments to help eradicate Polio, "one pint at a time". (beer, NA beer or root) We will be partnering locally with JJ Thermo's Bar and Grill from 4-9PM that day. "Purple Pinkies" will also be offered. Our club will also have a social event that evening starting @ 6. Check your email from Thursday for the event flyer with more information.
Wendell returned from a break in Columbia bragging about the heat and humidity.
What's up with Allen and his new BFF, the beer truck driver. Back in his undergraduate days he was partial to Schlitz, Blatz and Falstaff.
Happy birthday to Wendell on the 21st.
Lunch featured ham under pineapple, braised squash, mac 'n cheese, salad, rolls and cherry crumble.
Paul's suggestion for MarkS was to take it "slow and easy".
The Turkey Fund is now @ $210. All $$ collected will be given to Operation Blessing to use for Thanksgiving food purchases. If you want to donate via check, make it payable to Operation Blessing. We welcomed two potential members joining us for lunch, Phil and Tom (neither one became member).
Allen needed some singles.
Dave warned us that the shorter the notice, the longer the prayer. Amen!
MarkV was fined was giving up his Bunker Hill Fire Chief position.
Dick missed the opportunity to claim the 50-50.
Erin is taking care of Halloween parade arrangements for the 30th.
A banjo picker will provide the entertainment for our Steak Fry on November 6th.

Raise for Rotary: your new tool for doing good in the world

In my position at Rotary International, I have seen the importance of strengthening our Rotary Foundation. Funds we raise support grants that allow Rotary members to take action to solve complex issues in their communities and around the world.
I’m excited to share about a new online tool, Raise for Rotary, that will give individuals another powerful means to raise the funds necessary to support our Foundation. I have been one of the first to use Raise for Rotary, and in just a month, my online fundraising page raised $590 for PolioPlus. This may not seem like a large amount, but every contribution to the Polio Fund gets us closer to our goal to raise $50 million per year to end polio, with every dollar matched 2:1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
It’s easy to use – even on your cell phone – and a fun way to create a personalized virtual fundraiser to share with your friends and family, and gain support for your favorite Rotary cause. You can set up a fundraiser for any occasion, such as a birthday, anniversary, or to mark an important event like World Polio Day. Or you can take on an individual challenge to raise funds, such as a 30-mile bike ride, or fundraise as part of a team of people raising money for the same cause.
I used Raise for Rotary to create a fundraiser with my 4-year-old son, Danny. Our fundraiser was Learning to Ride so we can help end polio, and with the support of our family members, friends and Rotarians – all giving what they could – we surpassed our goal. Danny and I took daily rides and posted photos of his progress as incentive for family and friends to contribute and to give Danny extra incentive to keep going.
