WE NEED RUNNERS!
On Thursday we heard from Stefanie Withers, RiverBend Growth Association Member Engagement Director, who also serves as the facilitator for the RBGA Young Adult Committee. The YAC is composed of 22 high school juniors and seniors who come from the five local schools and a couple of home schoolers. They meet twice a month and provide volunteer assistance to local non-profit groups. It's great for networking and demonstrating the value of volunteerism. Seniors Emily and Josh accompanied Stephanie and shared some of their experiences.
WE NEED RUNNERS! Our Color Run is scheduled for June 1st @ Belk. We still need sponsors and runners. Runners can register @ Belk on the 1st. Registration opens @ 8AM with racing starting @ 9AM. ChrisH had some fond memories of hauling a pickup full of Krispy Kreme donuts for Rose Sebastian.

Opening duties were handled by CoryG, RickH and BillP, who was busy waiting for the cicada plague to descend on Godfrey.
17 members dined on ham, mac 'n cheeze, corn, rolls, Caesar salad, Key Lime minis and apple crisp.
SAA Patti returned from her Costa Rican vacay with a deeper appreciation for the Jimmy Buffett song "Volcano". She posed three Q's about the country and we wiffed on all three.
A new deck presents new opportunities. BradP and LoriP failed to located the joker, the scratch-off was won by JohnP.

The series followed Army surgeon “Hawkeye” (Alan Alda) and his fellow medics as they cared for the wounded during the Korean War. The final episode of the show in 1983 was watched by nearly 106 million people, a record that was not surpassed until 2010 by Super Bowl XLIV.

The EA club heard a presentation about Madison County history while the WR members were entertained by a Wood River history presentation.
EA-WR Junior Rotarians Jordan McNab and Samatha Schubert broke bread with the WR club while four RHS scholarship students visited the EA club meeting.
MarkSp was prepared to have his invited guest walk back to work.
Prez ScottL was absent, Tyler Pitchford covered for him.
Business of the Year nominations were being accepted at the EA meeting.
LeonardB and GeorgeT were fined for not attending the recent Tri-Club meeting.
WendellR was tagged as the new "repo man".
$5 take-away lunched were available @ the WR meeting.
JohnP was the program chair.
There was some grumbling about how often MarkSp has his 50-50 ticket drawn. he and WendellR failed to claim the jackpot.

The Power of Connection: A Beacon of Hope for Ukraine

A beacon of hope arose from an unexpected collaboration between Rotary districts interested in responding to the crisis in Ukraine. Two years ago, as I sat with three of my district governor classmates at the Zone 28/32 Conference in Toronto, we began a dialogue that would set the stage for a remarkable journey.
Aware of the opportunity provided by The Rotary Foundation’s Disaster Response Fund, we began to form the idea of pooling resources to maximize our impact. With the enthusiastic support of the district governors and Rotary Foundation chairs from Districts 6310, 6290, 7430, and 7980 we secured a grant of $100,000.
Tangible results came quickly. With the grant, we purchased a mobile water filtration system, AQUASET-RO 1000, medical and dental supplies, and essential winter clothing, transporting it to Ukraine to help thousands in need.
The thermal clothing, in particular, proved invaluable in the harsh winter, providing comfort and protection to those enduring the bitter cold. Meanwhile, the water purification unit brought safe drinking water to villages between Mykolaiv and Kherson, benefiting thousands.
Borys Bodnar, a member of the Ukraine Unity Passport Club, attested to the significance of these efforts, emphasizing how the thermal clothing and water purification system were instrumental in sustaining communities through ongoing hardships.
Tony Preston, the project coordinator, echoed this sentiment, acknowledging the undeniable success of the project, evidenced by the overwhelming demand for aid. While the exact number of lives touched may never be fully quantified, the impact undoubtedly spans tens of thousands, with countless individuals receiving crucial medical care and comfort during their time of need.
Through collaboration and unwavering dedication, our four Rotary districts came together to make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by the crisis in Ukraine. As a public image champion for Rotary, I am excited to share this story of my small part because it testifies to the impact each of us can make through our connections in Rotary and the power of taking collective action.
