We had 27 members at Julia's and three participating via Zoom.
Birthday wishes to MarkA and MarkV who share today as their natal day.
Speaking of anniversaries, today also marks the 46th anniversary of AllenH as a Rotarian.
Early arrivals included DarrenC, MarkS and BradL.
The Cards are floundering.(Did they lose the Reds again last PM?) Here's an opportunity to bring a bit of excitement to the baseball season. LoriP still has lots of packs of 10 Baseball Mania tickets available. Each ticket sells for $10. Complete the bottom of each ticket and return with payment to her. We keep 65% of each ticket sold. The contest begins in July and runs 10 weeks. There are 35 weekly winners, from $10 to $250. If you win, look for a check in the mail.
Extra beefy noodles was Thursday's entree. The featured side was Rotary g-beans. Rolls, salad, cheesecake and cake were also available.
Want to find a seat at the Loading Dock? JoeS sez go during the week.
As you saw in Lori's email on Thursday, we will be assisting the Heavenly Peace project the afternoon of August 5th making beds for kids.
Why don't we "mine" some Rotary tokens to use in paying fines and 50-50 $$.
Remember, you can find board agendas, minutes and financial reports in the documents section of our web site. Log-in is required.
It was great to see TyB's return.
The new club bylaws were approved by unanimous acclimation.
RhondaB was sheltering in place to avoid the gas cloud.
MarkS offers any club golfer 9 strokes and 2 mulligans over 18 holes. JoeS has already taken advantage.
When SherryT remarked that she was "almost there" a couple of wags suggested that she was referencing her 5' height or age 60.
Happy Fines were paid by JeanK on a new grandchild, SherryT for her clean gaming machine visit and PattiA for her daughter's ability to go to work after rolling her car, twice. JoeS complimented the "toughness" of East Alton village employees.
LindseyH announced that we managed net $2,000 for our Virtual Color Run, even though there were only 25 entrants. She did an outstanding job putting it all together. Hopefully we can have in-person racing next June with a lot of participants. Thanks to all the members who sponsored the event and entered as "racers".
SAA Sherry and her lugmeister Prez Chris had a lame day collecting trivia $$. We nailed 4 out of 5 Q's.
Opening duties were professionally handled by TyB, SandyS and BillP.
Was MarkS's attire GQ worthy? DarrenC thinks so...
Among the last to arrive were TommieM,GeorgeM, Prez Chris and JasonW.
The jackpot rose to $180. That did not stop SandyS (or was it SherryT?) and Prez Chris from choosing cards other than the joker. TommieM won the scratch-off.

What are the four major seas named after colors?
Green, Red, Blue, and Black
Red, Black, Yellow, and White
Brown, White, Yellow, and Orange
Blue, Red, White, and Pink
Four of the world’s seas share their name with colors. The Black Sea, located between Europe and Asia, was once called the “Inhospitable Sea” by the ancient Greeks because of its difficulty in navigation. Scholars aren’t sure how the Black Sea name came to be — one theory is that the frequent storms on the sea made the waters appear so dark they looked black to early sailors. The Red Sea, located between northeastern Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, gets its name from the ancient Greeks, possibly due to the presence of a type of bacteria in the sea that turns its waters a reddish-brown. The White Sea, located on the northwest coast of Russia, is named so because it is covered in ice for six to seven months of the year. Finally, the Yellow Sea — which separates China and the Korean Peninsula — gets its name from the brownish-yellow color of the silt-filled water that flows into it from the Yellow River.

Rotary members lead effort to transform childbirth care in Mongolia
Julie Dockrill, recipient of Rotary’s People of Action: Champions of Health, was part of a team of midwives in training health care professionals as part of a comprehensive well-being program that’s saving mothers and babies
When Julie Dockrill was approached by the Rotary Club of Waimate, New Zealand, to train medical workers in Mongolia in safer childbirth practices, she wasn’t sure how much of a difference she could make — despite her 20 years of experience as a midwife and childbirth educator.
At the time, Dockrill wasn’t very familiar with Rotary’s work, nor was she aware of the high infant mortality rate in Mongolia, an Asian country located between Russia and China. But she agreed to participate if it meant saving the life of even one child.
Julie Dockrill, a member of the Rotary Club of Timaru, New Zeland, was a recipient of Rotary's 2021 People of Action: Champions of Health, for improving maternal and child health practices in Mongolia.
Eight years later, the project’s success has exceeded her expectations. Dockrill, now a member of the Rotary Club of Timaru, says she never imagined that the work she began in 2013 would lead to the adoption of a nationwide health care framework that has contributed to the steady drop in Mongolia’s maternal and infant mortality rates.
The project, facilitated by Waimate club member Gary Dennison, was originally conceived as an initiative to supply clean water to a remote area in Mongolia. Plans shifted when a community assessment determined that the terrain meant a water well wasn’t feasible.
Dennison explored alternatives. He learned through Rotary connections in Mongolia that maternal and child health services and updated and safer childbirth practices were needed. So his club and the Rotary Club of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, devised a new plan: a four-phase project in which a vocational training team would offer childbirth education to health care workers.
Dockrill, who came recommended through a colleague, was tasked with leading a five-person team of midwives from Australia, Mongolia, and New Zealand, and developing training materials for more than 100 university students and midwives, nurses, and other health care professionals in Mongolia.
