NEWS, NOTES & NONSENSE

TREASURER FOR LIFE
  • Our program presenter was Caritas Family Solutions Marketing/Communications Specialist Kelci Jones. She told us about the variety of programs they offer throughout Southern Illinois. (They have an office in East Alton). Her program has been posted for your viewing and educational pleasure.
  • After last week's attendance bump, we settled back to a comfortable 19 in the house. Our speaker was the first to arrive. Roger and Allen joined her, after a fashion. The last to arrive was Chris 1. preceding him were Brad 1, Mark 2, Fred and Rod.
  • Mark's 1 and 3 were back from their respective adventures in Arizona and Florida. Wendell is off to Columbia for a graduation and to broker a settlement between President Santos and the FARC. Deisy awaits his arrival via Miami.
  • Mark 1 was proud to announce that he took six people into the abyss and returned with the same six, mostly.
  • Sherry announced that our Chilean exchange student, Daniela, will be arriving soon. She will share the date and ask everyone to join her at Lambert to provide a warm Rotary welcome to the U S of A.
  • Was Rick the only person to never dine at King Louie's?
  • Beef 'n noodles was the entree (there was also a mystery entree that never made it to the chafing dish). It was accompanied by g-beans, salad by Caesar, and Bastille Day cake.
  • Wendell's pet raccoon wasn't dead, it was just a bit inebriated. Ask him. It seems as though some of the animal kingdom creatures inhabiting Rosewood Heights are a bit wack. PETA is investigating!
  • Allen was accompanied by grandson/future Rotarian Carter.
  • 13 Program of the Year ballots have been received. The 21st will be your last opportunity to vote.
  • If you know a Wood River Township honored citizen at least age 60 and on a fixed income give Sherry their name. They may qualify for a monthly box of food.
  • Per Lori's message, September 8th will be the date for the annual family steak cookout at Kendall Park. Put it on your calendar.
  • SAA Bill was off to Peoria saving souls. Rick subbed, with Mark 1 providing lug collection. Berlin and TV size questions proved problematic. Paul suggested a fine for folks who had not yet turned in a ballot for the Program of the Year.
  • Paul presented a new badge to Matt and a 10 year certificate to Cory.
  • Sherry was reminded that she's the boss, get the meeting started!
  • Opening duties were provided by Matt and Dave.
  • Rick has his ticket picked again, along with Dave and Brad 1. The $7 jackpot was safe, although Dave pick a Jack, but no joker.
  • That's all from here. Have a fine and dry weekend.

July 13, 2000
  • Current members serving in a leadership capacity were: Prez Mark 2, Dick, Mark 1 and Rick
  • Our program was a review of the current scholarship program led by Charlie Kunz
  • After three Busch Stadium concession stand dates we had made about $2000. Our date the previous week presented some challenging weather (probably oppressive heat). It seems as though Mark 1 had a good night with tips.
  • We were actively looking for a new meeting site. The hospital was no longer able to provide meeting space and meals. Where did we go next??
  • The Telegraph recently ran a  nice article about our outbound exchange student, Angel Rose (Japan).
  • Last week's program was presented by Lisa Phillipson from the Easter Seals Association. Growth Association Director of Economic Development Larry Trent would present the next program.
  • New RI President Frank Devlyn would make a presentation at a luncheon in Collinsville on July 24th.
  • Do you remember Joyce Kitchell?
