President's Message: Michael Caslin
My fellow Rotarians and Guests,

On this date (September 9th) in 1776, the Continental Congress formally declares the name of the new nation to be the United States of America.  This replaced the term United Colonies, which had been in general use.  By September, the Declaration of Independence had been drafted, signed, printed, and sent to Great Britain.  What Congress had declared to be true on paper in July was clearly the case in practice.  Congress had created a country from a cluster of colonies and the new nation’s name reflected that reality.  Our Founding Fathers had the courage to go against the British monarch and create their own government.  They had a vision for a government controlled by the people where every citizen had the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  They also knew the decision to break away from the British empire was bold and would come with a price, but they had faith that freedom would prevail.  In Rotary, we have the courage to support our communities, to provide humanitarian services internationally, and to lead a global initiative to eradicate diseases like polio.

To our guests, we invite you to join us in fellowship and service.  Please feel free to attend an upcoming meeting to learn more about Rotary.

Yours in Service,
Michael
