Sgt. Manny Carbahal called for happy bucks: Lori Raineri paid $20 to say that her call for support of the District Attorney’s comfort dog program did not mean financial support, she enjoyed a flight from Southern California sitting next to member David W. Morse (aka “the younger’), thankful for Jay Brookman’s commentary of basketball play by play, and finally thanks to the Get Up and Go volunteers for last week’s write up featuring new member Daisy.  Check out a nice article by Susanne about all the things Lori loves about the club here. Bob Poppenga expressed thanks to Susanne and Brian for joining the Peace Corps.  John Youmans reminded us that Student of the Month doesn’t “just happen,” and thanked Nancy Storm for a wonderful program.  Patsy Inouye will be joining her daughter in a new car for a road trip to Austin, Texas.  Sgt. Manny collected $2 from a surprisingly large number of members who bought Power Ball tickets.  Rose Cholewinski, recently won $75 at a Chamber of Commerce event, hubbie John Youmans was assessed the fine.  Nancy Storm grumbled “another 10 years of debauchery,” as she paid her fine for her family’s beloved Raiders football team staying in Oakland for a while longer.

Sgt. Manny noted that Dick McCapes looked in great shape, as Sgt. Manny approached with the microphone, Dick expressed concern that Sgt. Manny was invading his space.  Sgt. Manny circulated a half dozen copies of a 10”x 14” colored pictures of Dick and what we would have otherwise thought was granddaughter but is in fact his personal trainer.   Dick, Several members are interested in signing up.

Sgt. Manny called on Davis City Council member Lucas Frerichs for his “Coming Out Party, or Kick Off Campaign” next Friday at the Odd Fellows building.  It wasn’t clear if Lucas’ prepaid fine insurance is valid for 2016.  Former city council members Ted Puntillo and Don Saylor were asked to provide advice about running for a second term.  Don advised, “enjoy it.”  Ted said the good news is that you get lifetime medical benefits; the bad news is that you’ll need it. Kelly Wilkerson was fined $10 for her husband’s article about raising children in Davis that was selected as one of Dunning’s select few last September, Sgt. Manny said the fine still needed to be collected. Jim Belenis was fined for a picture of DHS basketball star Anna Belenis, Sgt. Manny noted that given what has been happening in the stock market that Jim might have trouble paying the fine.

More on our new Peace Corps members:  past Peace Corps members including Nikki Grey Rutamu, Marc Thompson, and Jim Grieshop were asked for advice.  Nikki has in-laws in Uganda and advised to watch out for her brother-in-law who is a sketchy driver. Sgt. Manny is concerned that folks are leaving the club just before he becomes president.  He would like to recruit member’s dogs and asked each member with a dog to say its name and make an advance payment on membership dues of $2. Draw of the day:  Bruce Wolk won a free breakfast.
