Friday August 25th was just another same old same old Friday morning at the Odd Fellow Hall in Davis CA. President DM got the meeting going at 7:08 with his usual Ed Sullivan routine “that we have a really big show in store for you today”. There were at least sixty kind souls in the crowd. The coffee tasted like it had been hot at some point, and the breakfast tasted, as usual.

DM asked for visiting Rotarians. Rick Saka was here from Woodland Sunrise. Don Saylor then introduced out speakers (more on them in a bit. . . ) Post cards were next and once again they didn’t cycle to the back of the room. DM was wondering who signs his cards Mr. Personality. My guess would be Nancy Storm’s buddy Tom Cross.

DM then went over an article that Trump has since said is fake news regarding that you can make a club smarter by getting more women into it.

There were quite a few announcements. Larry Olsen had something about the URC Foundation Golf Tournament , see Larry for more details. Bob Poppenga thanked those that worked at the County Fair Beer Booth.

Tim Daleiden was reminding everyone about the Oktoberfest fundraiser on September 30th. Chuck Snipes says the beer is fermenting in West Sacramento (what doesn’t ferment in West Sac?). Dick Berry is looking for raffle prizes for Oktoberfest. Also, I REALLY need people to bake apple pies. It is our biggest fundraiser, so please help out. Vanessa Errecarte mentioned that there is an upcoming community service meeting.

Next up was Manny Carbahl who was the sergeant for the day. He started off with his take on getting the club smarter. More smart men would join the club if there are more women in it.

Ken Firestein is happy being back in-country. DM was happy that his sister was a visitor today ( Four Way Test was violation ??? ). Matt Williams was happy about a recent trip to Maine. Vanessa said she had an un-relaxing trip with kids to Maui (Duh!). Rose Cholewinski is going to D.C. to give a presentation (to the Donald??). Manny said John Youmans was happy about that she is going (I seriously doubt that!). John Morgan celebrated birthday number 72 (I hope I look that good in 15 years!). Mark Pratt also said he had a nice vacation. Kids must not have been on it…

Manny then had the DJUSD John Bowes model his backside since that was featured in the Enterprise.

Then it was bye bye Manny.

DM introduced the speaker Greg Bourne. Greg was discussing the Family Hui program. At one point I counted twelve persons on their cell phones during the talk, certainly because they were eager to research this great organization. Which was good, since I’ve known about the organization since the early 90’s. My sister in law was a local director in Mililani, Hawaii. Hopefully the mainlanders won’t screw up a good thing the Hawaiians started. You WILL want more information, so go to www.familyhui.org

Dave Heard was indisposed, so I had to do the draw of the day (take pictures, write notes, and do the draw. I’m a totally selfless Rotarian!). Dennis Lindsay yellow ticket was called for a chance to win $822. Luckily for Dennis he won’t have to pay for next week’s breakfast that will be served by nice people.
