Author Talk: Celia and the Little Boy
Jan. 16, 2019 7:30 a.m.
Irene Applebaum Buchine brings the challenges of childhood depression into the light through her own personal experience and thoughtful reflection. From struggling with dyslexia to raising a child with depression, Irene has known what it is like to be unseen, marginalized and helpless. She hopes her book gives voice to children in the darkness of depression and encouragement to those who love them. Irene holds a Master’s in Education and worked in early childhood settings for more than a decade. Her interest in art and communication led her to start a successful design and marketing studio. In 2006, Irene began writing memoir and returned to her love of illustration, sparking the creation of Celia and the Little Boy. Irene lives in New Hampshire with her husband, Herb, and their dog, Woody. She has one son, three stepchildren, and a growing brood. Irene is a member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) and many writers’ groups. |
