TODAY'S SPEAKER
This Meeting's Speaker: John Cosgrove
67th DG Cosgrove spoke of our rich history in our club. He spoke about Gift of Life that our own Art Scialla started, which as saved over 1600 children year to date.
Our initiative this year that has come from Rotary International is the Stigma Free program. This supports awareness to people who are fighting demons, to speak up and seek help. At our first District Staff meeting, we had the President and CEO of New Bridge Medical Center. Their President spoke about mental health issues. District 7490 will form a committee and we will come together in October with all Mental Health facilities to see how we can further support this cause.
We are having the Bergen County Prosecutor at the next District Meeting. They will speak about how they are working on helping people with Mental Health issues instead of incarcerating them
John spoke about the Rotary Foundation . We are one of the lowest districts in the WORLD in terms of donating to the Foundation. We need to change this. Three years from now, the money that we put in comes back to us in the form of grants. Phil Wilson is our District Polio co - chair. HE was inflicted with Polio at 7 years old and has done a great job on raising awareness to this foundation. Remember to thank Phil for his service has he is moving out of the district soon.
The District is also presenting a challenge - three clubs a month, ours will be SEPTEMBER, to fundraise/buy food for our Veteran Food Pantry in Paterson. Please remember to focus on getting food. We will coordinate with Debbie Flower.
Membership - we have 1045 members. Rotary International wants us to be over 1,100 people. Cosgrove wants us to each focus on bringing in one member this year. His goal is to get between 1200-1300 members.
He thanked Bonnie for voting on his budget - John's budget includes a marketing firm that will help get the world out about all of our good works as well as an accounting firm to help with our non-profits in the district. He will develop a non-profit check list for all clubs to use to help with our own non-profits.
Our newly inducted Rotarian, T'Shon Wells of Wells Cleaning Company, gave a short presentation on his business. He grew up in Paterson and his mother owned three hair salons in the neighborhood. He learned from his time at William Paterson what chemicals were needed is different commercial buildings such as schools.
His first contract was for $500 and he quit both of his jobs to become an entrepreneur. He learned about taking chances and risks as he left a state job with a Pension and started his own business. At one point, he was kicked off of NJ Transit for bringing his cleaning products on board! But he kept with it and through his resiliency he has a very successful company . He now has contracts with Met Life and has a goal to help with clean-up around the state to combat illegal dumping in commercial districts. He is looking to branch out in New York with the rodent problems in NYC. He is providing cleaning services to churches and day cares.
He is now educating hospitals, doctor offices, urgent cares on how to clean properly and effectively. He is creating and providing jobs to people that may not have transportation within these cities. He is proving jobs to teens getting out of Highschool as well. He has summer programs where the teens help clean the streets.
T'shon was mentored by Rotarian Carnie Bragg, who helped T'shon start his business. He also was mentored by former Rotarian Mr. Grady of Mr. G's restaurant who became a client

We are a recognized as a tax-exempt non-profit organization the EIN# is 22-3551397.
Do today's duty, fight today's temptation; do not weaken and distract yourself by looking forward to things you cannot see, and could not understand if you saw them. Do today what should be done. Your tomorrow may never come. Today is the pupil of yesterday.
We are thinking for all of our members, family and friends who are suffering an illness or other adversities especially Pat Scialla, Tony Pecci and Gloria Counsellor. We are reminded to think about our brothers and sisters in Ukraine.
