TODAY'S SPEAKER

This Meeting's Speaker: Richard Polton

Our Guest Speaker today: Richard Polton - is a native of Paterson, attended local schools and went on to study architecture, urban history and planning at Columbia University, the Rhode Island School of Design and MIT. He is a professional real estate analyst and consultant and has published numerous articles in the leading appraisal and planning professional publications on topics related to urban development, and affordable housing.

His fascination with Paterson history has kept him busy, he accidentally came upon the story of Fred Wesley Wentworth a Paterson Architect, in 20065, while looking for Paterson memorabilia on eBay. As Polton became involved in the research on Wentworth, he realized that the architect had designed the buildings that had shaped his family history, The buildings where they were born, went to school, went synagogue, were married, worked were all Wentworth designed.

Richard was honored by the Jewish Historical Society of North Jersey for his outstanding leadership, generosity, and commitment to the preservation of Paterson's history.
We enjoyed a slide show of all of the historic buildings in Paterson, the year they were built and the significance of each in Paterson's history.

Richard's recently published book is: Paterson's Industrial Age (Image of America).

The Great Falls Pantry - requesting donations of Non-Perishable foods.
With almost 27,000 military veterans living in Paterson alone, many of them living under tight financial constraints, this pantry was just what they needed.

Located at 160 Ward Street in Paterson, NJ, the pantry will be open the 3rd Saturday of every month from 9-11 am. Veterans will need to bring proof of service and a tax return in order to shop. Currently, the pantry holds a variety of dry goods and the organizers plan to hold fundraisers in the future to continue to keep the pantry stocked for our vets!
