During a September meeting of the Milford Rotary Club, Dana Chalberg, (right) Club 21 Coordinator and Lorrie Adams (left), Community Liaison, shared a heart warming and compassionate slide show and presentation about the benefits of Alternative's Club 21 program that was expanded to Milford in the winter of 2012.

The Club 21 program is designed to develop richer social connections for people with psychiatric disabilities by matching Alternatives’ disabled members with community volunteers with whom they can become friends, have fun, and enjoy activities together. According to the speakers, “the program addresses the social isolation that many Alternatives disabled members face.

The club meets twice a month at different settings and forums for every meeting.
At the meetings, partners do activities together such as having picnics in the park, watching a sporting event or sharing a hobby such as knitting or photography. Lorrie noted that the partnership will be one-on-one for the first few meetings and will later progress to a larger group setting. Club 21 is looking for volunteers to assist with this worthy endeavor. Anyone interesting in being part of this dynamic program should contact Lorrie at lorrie.alternativesnet.org
