The new Director of the Maurice M. Pine Free Public Library, Adele Puccio, introduced herself to Fair Lawn Rotarians on January 12th.  Adele provided Rotarians an overview of the upcoming plans to reinvigorate the library, maintaining its position as a community center serving Fair Lawn residents of all ages.  The Maurice M. Pine Free Public Library is in constant use, there are several book clubs; such as the Readers Roundtable, Crack Spine, Young Adults, Children’s, and Recipe Club; Public Educational Programs and Events such as Weight Management program, Citizenship Classes, financial planning workshops, Tai Chi classes, Writer’s Circle group, Creative Coloring and artist Open Studio, and many more programs.

Other plans for the Maurice M. Pine Free Public Library include reconfiguring the children’s room, creating a new meeting room, revamping the Pine Gallery to make the space more efficient with modular walls and many more improvements.  Other non-physical improvements include enhancing e-book and other electronic services such as Zinio magazines, Hoopla, and Mango language learning.  The library is also moving to obtain best sellers, high demand items and duplicates to minimize wait times for books, music, and video rental items.  Reference materials will also be updated in all available formats utilizing up-to-date technology.

Also as a member of BCCLS, a consortium of 77 public libraries in northern New Jersey, library card holders can order an item from another member library and have it delivered to Fair Lawn. There are 62 member libraries in Bergen, 10 in Essex, 4 in Hudson, and 1 in Passaic.  And remember, library cards are free!

The library is more than a place to check out books and videos.  It is a true community center that meets the needs of the Fair Lawn community.  Fair Lawn Rotarians urge the entire community to check out the jewel of Fair Lawn.
