2018 Science and Engineering Super Challenge 30 August - Adelaide. Plenty of Congratulations for the participating students of the Cummins Area School who should be justly proud of themselves. All of their supporters are certainly very proud too! After a few attempts, they have now taken second spot amongst some formidable opposition from Adelaide Secondary Colleges yesterday. St Peter's college came first and will go onto the Australian Super Challenge later in the year, while Temple Christian College came third Please note that CAS was in fact the only public and Area School to make it to the state "superchallenge". Lily Glover has expressed her thoughts on their achievments "It was such an amazing opportunity to be able to compete in the 2018 Science and Engineering Super Challenge. Coming from a rural country town, these trips are rare and hugely appreciated by us. The challenge was split into many events, including the bridge building challenge and a "helter skelter shelter", which involved producing the tallest, strongest tower possible and an earthquake-proof tower with limited supplies. Each event required a team of four students maximum,to solve the problems with which they were faced. Knowledge on engineering, coding, and skills such as problem solving, teamwork, communication and ingenuity were tested throughout the entire day. Competing against elite schools and colleges (who wore ties) was daunting, and placing second was a massive achievement for an area school. I'm sure that this will push students from not only Cummins, but other schools around this state and all over Australia to follow careers in STEM."
