Projects in Timor Leste
This year our committee sought to progress the club’s participation in Timor Leste projects. A prioritisation system has been utilised to score and prioritise projects in an structured way.  This has been useful to make informed decisions on behalf of the Club.

Kirsti’s mother, Karen Kankkunen is DG Partner of District 9560 invited our club to participate the Cova Lima Water Profect in Dato Tolu for a water tank project for the birthing Centre there and is supported by the D9560 Rotary Club of Dili Lafaeke. The project will supply them with a new tank to fit their existing stand and the connection fittings into the Birthing Centre. The new tank will be about 3000 liters and will fit in the existing stand. The tank will be manufactured by Dom Bosco Plant, which Rotary previously owned, which was donated to the NFP Dom Bosco. The intention is to pipe water from the newly installed tank into the first level of the existing stand adjacent the clinic. The water flow will be again gravity fed, with a valve to prevent overflow.  Support of $3,500 AUD was approved by the Board and has been contributed to this project by the Club.

Separately the Committee has now developed on ground relationships with both the Rotary Club of Dilli and the Rotary Club of Dili Lafaeke.  There are a number if ideas that are being scoped out by the RC of Dili including possible facilities for the School of the Blind and supporting training in sterilisation of equipment procedures for health clinics.
The Rotary Club of Dili Lafaeke has presented a proposal to establish a multifunctional sports court in a School in Kakeuren village iha Dato Tolu, post Administrative Fohorem.  Sports facilities are in short supply in Timor Leste and the feedback is that this type of facility has a huge impact on student well-being and the community at large.
The Committee and Club will further work on these possibilities in the next Rotary Year.
