How lovely it was to have the Rotary Club of Eastwood join us for breakfast last Thursday in a joint meeting. It was a good opportunity to meet new Rotarians, reacquaint ourselves with others and discuss projects and fundraising activities plus hear an address from an outstanding guest speaker.
Kyra’s talk on nuclear waste repositories following a study tour she participated in for interested South Australian parliamentarians and business leaders to go to Finland, France and U.K. to see how these countries had gone about developing their own domestic high level waste repositories certainly had us "all ears" as we endeavoured to retain the plethora of information and facts she provided. And her speaking time ran out...........!
I am thrilled that Dr Phil has been able to arrange for Kyra to speak to our club again and more specifically to enable members to have the opportunity to ask questions. Her topic “Q&A on the nuclear fuel cycle” is set for Thursday November 2nd and I have issued an invitation to Eastwood Club to join us on this date also as their members were also enthralled with her address.
We were also lucky to have past member Terry Rodoni and Ange Rodoni also join us for breakfast and pleased they will still keep in touch with our club as “Friends of Rotary”.
Bruce McDonald, John Campbell and myself attended the joint district membership summit on Saturday and Sunday and I must say it was a great workshop to participate in. Speakers all had a membership message that as a club we can work with. Congratulations to the organisers of the event and I would like to discuss ideas and action plans our club planning meetings. Meanwhile please speak to Bruce or John for their take on the forum.
Thank you to Fred Field and John Campbell who found time to assist with the packing of a container of shoes for Souls 4 Soles last Friday. In total 24,000 were loaded and will be shipped to Sierra Leone.
Next week is a Club Planning meeting so please bring your thoughts and ideas to breakfast, as our club is looking for new projects, fundraising activities, image improvement and member participation to enable our club to expand and flourish.
Thought for the week:
“There are three types of people – those who make things happen, those who watch things happen and those who say “what happened?”. Which one are you?”
I like to think Rotarians are the ones who make things happen.

2. Rotarian’s innovative charity tackles men’s mental health crisis; calls for support
Young charitable organisation, Lifeback Limited is tackling one of Australia’s worst crises and the biggest killer of men aged 18-44.
In 2015, there were 1205 road deaths and 3027 deaths from suicide. Around 75% of suicide deaths were men, which equates to 6 men’s lives lost per day. Lifeline Australia estimates there were 65,100 suicide attempts in 2015. These are alarming statistics affecting our families, workplaces and communities.
Who better to help than a survivor of suicide who clearly understands how a man can find himself in this tragic situation? Lifeback Limited has been registered as a not-for-profit company by Rotarian, Anthony Hart. An entrepreneur and businessman, Anthony is absolutely passionate to help blokes like himself improve their mental health and wellbeing, before they find themselves in a suicidal state.
After learning how to get his own life back on track, Anthony created an early intervention program. Known as Lifeback Tracker, the program helps men monitor and record their results against 4 principles that Anthony advocates, to improve one’s health and wellbeing, including thoughts, feelings and mood.
With early encouragement from individual users, health organisations and the University of South Australia, Anthony has launched a crowdfunding campaign to translate his already successful booklet into an App.
Lifeback Limited, which has DGR status, is calling for support for its crowdfunding campaign. For more information, visit:
